Taliban Schools Prince Harry

Carry On Khyber

It’s a hell of a day when I find myself in agreement with the Taliban, but there you go.

Taliban leaders have fired back at Prince Harry over the royal’s comments that piloting a helicopter in Afghanistan, where he says he killed insurgents during his recent tour of duty, is like playing a video game.

The royal, who co-piloted an Apache helicopter during his 20-week tour, made the comparison in an interview broadcast by the BBC Monday night.

“It’s a joy for me because I’m one of those people who loves playing PlayStation and Xbox,” the 28-year-old said. “So with my thumbs I like to think I’m probably quite useful.”

The Taliban did not appreciate the comparison.

“This statement is not even worth condemning. It is worse than that,” Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, told London’s Telegraph. “To describe the war in Afghanistan as a game demeans anyone—especially a prince, who is supposed to be made of better things.”

Mujahid continued: “It shows the lack of understanding, of knowledge. It shows they are unfamiliar with the situation and shows why they are losing. … It’s not a game. It’s very, very real.”

I mean…wtf?!!

To much inbreeding and too much self-entitled stupidity. A clear argument for why an independent Scotland should be a republic, I’d say.

I'm a late 40′s, Scottish ex-pat, now married to a wonderful Texan, with Honours in Philosophy from Univ. of Stirling, UK 1986. I worked most of life in business insurance industry (fire, accident, liability) including 12 years as a broker/underwriter/correspondent at Lloyd’s of London. Being from the other side of the pond, my political interests tend to focus on how US foreign policy affects the rest of the planet. Other interests include early and dark-ages British history, literature and cognitive philosophy/science.

  • The lineage is:

James I of England and James VI of Scotland, as Elizabeth Tudor was the last English sovereign on the throne (The Stuarts), followed by The Hanoverians (George I) and then Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (Rebranded Windsor becuase of WW I).

Would you like to take the Stuarts back? We’d be delighted to return the Germans too.

    • I’m not sure there are any Stuarts left with enough of a claim – and I know the last Bruce died in Russia a decade or more back. No, a republic sounds good – with Sean Connery as figurehead president 🙂

      • Yes! Exactly what I have been saying for years. England could save themselves a ton of money by replacing the royals with actors! Indeed, done right they could have an entire channel with content for both the highbrow and the lowbrow viewers. They might even make money off of the process.

  • great post- WTF indeed.

Who took Harry’s muzzle off? I thought he was kept far from the playing field after the rumble of assassination attempts on him as a prize trophy started.

A nit- I don’t see any lack of self entitled stupidity from commoner politicians – and one never can be certain about the inbreeding in Scotland:-)
