Christians under siege in Egypt and Syria

Christians in Egypt and Syria are under attack.

The attacks are systematic and pervasive in both countries where Christians account for five to ten percent of the population.   Al Qaeda and extremist fellow travelers are behind the violence.   In the Syrian conflict, the United States supports the rebel cause, which has openly declared Al Qaeda fighters.  In Egypt, armed supporters of the ousted government of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohamed Morsi carry out the attacks.

Where is the focused condemnation from the White House of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood; the threats to cut off aid to the Syrian rebels for their deliberate attacks on Christians?

Why aren’t right-wing Republicans up in arms over this?

President Obama was cheered by his party and the opposition for cancelling a meeting with Vladimir Putin, one man, yet we see no outrage or cancellation of meetings with rebels.

Was that an Amber Alert…or notice that WW III has broken out?

coffee-1stSo there I was, stuck in rush hour traffic, eastbound on Hwy. 26 heading into Portland. Creeping along at a majestic 17 MPH, I was focused on not rear-ending the car in front of me. Or at least I was until, without warning, I heard an awful sound, something that could only really be described using the words “Verily, for the Apocalypse is upon us.” I was on the verge of something resembling panic when I realized the hideous screech was coming from my cell phone, which until that moment had been resting quietly in the center console. It was the sort of sound I would never have imagined could be emitted by a Galaxy S4.

Once I managed to compose myself and keep my car from veering into the next lane, I was able to figure out what was going on. It was an Amber Alert. Evidently, a man in San Diego had killed his neighbor and one of her children, and then headed north in a blue Nissan Versa with her teenage daughter. An alleged sighting in northern California and then eastern Oregon triggered an Amber Alert. I had NO idea that a cell phone carrier could send an Amber Alert unbidden to virtually every cell phone anywhere. That’s the kind of information that would have been nice to know before I almost caused an accident in rush hour traffic, but it did set me to thinking.

George Zimmerman in Texas. With a gun. What could POSSIBLY go wrong?

Q: George Zimmerman, you just got away with murder! What are you going to do next?

A: I’m going to Disneyland! Well, eventually. First I’m going to Texas, where I can live the good life with some of my fellow gun nuts 2nd Amendment devotees. It’ll be fun!

hrry-hollow-pointYou just got yourself acquitted of what some folks would (rightly) define as murder. You’re a pariah to the African-American community and a good portion of the rest of the population. You may well be (not unjustifiably) the most hated man in America. Your 15 minutes of fame have revealed you to be a coward, a fool, and a murderer (except in the eyes of the state of Floriduh). So, what’s a guy just looking for a little peace and quiet to do? Well, DUH; you’re going to take your show on the road and head for Texas, where you and your gun will be celebrated as heroes.

Was Pablo Neruda Mudered – Pinochet Era Death Case Reopened

The Buenos Ares Herald (Agonist Global News list) broke the following story yesterday, March 4. (Image: pbasco)

Decades after death, Chile’s Neruda to be exhumed after accusation of murder

“The body of Chilean Nobel laureate Pablo Neruda, dead nearly four decades, will be exhumed after his former driver declared the poet was poisoned under Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship, a judge said today.

“Neruda, famed for his passionate love poems and staunch communist views, is presumed to have died from prostate cancer on September 23, 1973.

“But Manuel Araya, who was Neruda’s chauffer during the sick writer’s last few months, says agents of the dictatorship took advantage of his ailment to inject poison into his stomach while he was bedridden at the Santa Maria clinic in Santiago.

“Neruda was a supporter of socialist President Salvador Allende, who was toppled in a military coup on September 11, 1973, nearly two weeks before the poet’s death at age 69. Around 3,000 people are thought to have been killed by the brutal 17-year long Pinochet dictatorship that ensued.”

John Brennan Doesn’t Rule Out Targeting Americans for Assassination in United States – Mark Karlin, Editor BuzzFlash and TruthOut

I’ve known  Mark Karlin (online) for a while.  As editor of BuzzFlash, he was generous enough to run my voting rights and other  articles on more than a few occasions.  He’s an excellent analyst in addition to his editorial skills and a solid progressive Democrat from Chicago.  All the more reason to take  his article below is a fair warning about the potential abuse of power.     Michael Collins

These are the powers of a modern day Nero, not the leader of a nation based on the foundation of a Constitution guaranteeing specific rights and legal recourse.

Sometimes, it even takes BuzzFlash at Truthout a little time to write commentaries about killer issues, in this case literally.

According to the Wall Street Journal (in a February 15 article), Obama’s nominee to head the CIA, John Brennan, ambiguously left open the possibility that US citizens could be targeted for assassination in the United States: Read More
