James Joyce began Finnegans Wake with this passage:
“riverrun, past Eve and Adam’s from swerve of shore to bend of bay bring us back by a commodious vicus of recirculation back to Howrth Castle and Environs.”
Those sturdy enough to navigate the hallucinogenic, recursive, rhythmic prose to the very last page (or clever enough to proceed there right away) discover that the opening sentence is a continuation of the last sentence in the novel: “A way a lone a long a last a long the ” … “riverun” etc. It’s all a loop, where Finn constantly begins again.
We see a multilayered, recursive cycle of beginning again from the point at which we’ve just ended in the cycles of the tragic assault on Syria and its people.
On December 7, 2013, the Islamic Front, a Saudi Arabian rebel concoction, attacked a major weapons depot “belonging to the mainstream Western-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA).” The depot was just on the Syrian side of the Syria-Turkey border. “The Observatory [for Human Rights],” a FSA- sympathizing news source used by the Western media, “said the arms [in the depot] had been brought across the border from Turkey” (Daily Star, Dec 7). I simply can’t believe that this showed up on the front page of The Independent today. What’s the world coming to?
The fact that Scotland Yard would even release this information is indicative of something significant. We don’t know what that might be, of course. But, why would Scotland Yard, not exactly a cutting edge law enforcement group (as we now know after the phone hacking scandal), even release this information. It is like pouring a gallon of gasoline on a fire that is nearly burned out. Maybe there is so much more here that hasn’t been revealed, Scotland Yard is covering itself in anticipation of a later storm.
The Independent: Scotland Yard to assess fresh claims over death of Princess Diana
Detectives say they are ‘scoping’ the information and ‘assessing its relevance and credibility’
That’s what Blythe Masters of JPMorgan does based on evidence from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and JPMorgan’s recent history. (Image: UCS)
Coal power is the leading source carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. CO2 is the leading cause of climate change. Once airborne, the man made filth sticks around for 2 to 20 centuries. In addition, coal power is “a leading cause of smog, acid rain, and toxic air pollution.”
All that makes us sick reflected in a an annual health care price tag of $333 to $500 billion in costs for heart and lung diseases, for example. Tens of thousands die from those diseases eery year.
Guess which bank is one of the top financing sources for coal plants and mountain top removal? JP Morgan. That’s the same JPMogan that the FERC may go after (just like the Department of Justice went after those involved with torture).
(BBC) – Former Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher has died at 87 following a stroke, her spokesman has said.
Lord Bell said: “It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning.”
Baroness Thatcher was Conservative prime minister from 1979 to 1990.
She was the first woman to hold the post. Her family is expected to make a further statement later.
El Comandante has left the building, Pepe Escobar Asia Times, March 6
El Comandante may have left the building – his body defeated by cancer – but the post-mortem demonization will go on forever. One key reason stands out. Venezuela holds the largest oil reserves in the world. Washington and that crumbling Kafkaesque citadel also known as the European Union sing All You Need is Love non-stop to those ghastly, feudal Persian Gulf petro-monarchs (but not to “the people”) in return for their oil. By contrast, in Venezuela El Comandante came up with the subversive idea of using oil wealth to at least alleviate the problems of most of his people. Western turbo-capitalism, as is well known, does not do redistribution of wealth and empowerment of communitarian values.
United States and European Union sanctions against Iran prevent much needed medical care for the Iranian people. Those with cancer, for example, have lost the option of treatment through chemotherapy while hemophiliacs are at high risk for any surgery due to a denial of essential pharmaceuticals. There are 85,000 new cases of cancer every year in Iran. Those with cancer and the newly diagnosed will have to do without effective treatments. A large percentage of them will die sooner than anticipated as a result. (Image: Fergal of Calldagh)
The Iranian medical community is unable to get required medicines due to financial restrictions in the sanctions regime. The restrictions effectively blocks pharmaceutical purchases by Iranian medical facilities. No ticket, no laundry is the policy of big and little pharma throughout the world. As a result, right now — as you read this — innocent Iranians are dying, sentenced to death by the U.S.-E.U. sanctions.
Who on earth would initiate and sustain such a policy? Read More
