White House Celebrates Fifth Straight Year Without Oral Sex

Apparently saying . . .

. . . the word "blow job" is a big no-no on radio. Why is that? We can talk about a 4 hour erection on national TV, and Ken Starr can drag the country through the mud for a year about Clinton's blow-job but we can't say it on the air? Strange. I am sorry I said it. But I find our attitudes about sex in this nation curious, to say the least.

You?

In the fact that everything sexual has to be secret and yet everyone knows it happens.   We giggle, laugh and wink about it.  We constantly sell our products and services with it.   Yet, for some reason we think if we vocally acknowledge sex we are in fact diminsioned in our image.

In some ways it brings to mind a young child that closes his/her eyes and sticks their fingers in their ear saying, "You're not there because I don't see you and I don't hear you."  Yet the adult/parent is there regardless.

SilverOwl December 27, 2005 - 9:02pm

using the word Fellatio would be more acceptable? It is the technical (?) term afterall right? Is that not allowed either?

Certainly I find the US attitude towards sex pretty childish. We have a popular nude beach here and Disney Cruises wanted to ban taxi drivers from mentioning it to their passengers. lol

They all still love to go there though, to have a peek.

When I first arrived in Europe in the 1960s they were laughing at the provincialism of American society -- and European women were snickering at the repressive attitude of American women -- regarding sex. They're still laughing and snickering.

We've come a long way, in that regard, but we're still being beaten down by the Calvinists among us who refuse to be educated about sex, refuse to be honest about sex, and are working 24/7 to have everyone else be ashamed of thinking those sexual thoughts that we are all thinking, as was so thoughtfully pointed out.

We have a much higher rate of sex crimes in the US due to the incredible repression. There was a great study on sexual attitudes and practices, with recommendations, that was completed by the US government under Reagan, which was then promptly buried since what the experts had to report did not match the repressive expectations of the politicians -- stuff like pornography provides an outlet that reduces sex crimes when the politicians seemed to want to prove that evil pornography increased sex crimes. So instead of a relaxed attitude toward pronograaphy, they favored building more prisons.

The hopeful sign is that so many young people have a much more ho-hum attitude toward sex. The sexual revolution that started in the '60s is still going on. The mainline media is somewhat slow to go with the flow as advertisers don't want to alienate those in the population who insist on repressing themselves, their offspring, and anyone else they can repress.

In Brussels, Frankfurt, Toulouse and Milan they're still snickering.

assfucker.  try that one...

I am a Canadian and I find the US attitude about sex strange. We have our own problems, but showing a bare breast does not throw our country into a tither.

Our sex education in schools cover what many parents are afraid to teach our children. My two daughters were not afraid to ask me any question about sex because I answered them the best I could.

We all laugh at your cencorship as prudish.

A child who is raised knowing about contraception and sex will usually not get pregnant.

I told my daughters about all the male lines (including the ones that I used) that are used to get them into bed. They were better informed than most kids whose parents were religeous. They didn't get pregnant but many of their friends did.

An informed youth is better prepared for the future than an uninfored youth.

You hide the truth and they will do it without proper knowledge about safety.

You give them the truth and they will still do it but will make sure that they do it safely.

Make the choice.

Can't remember where I found it, might have been here on Agonist.

One of these days I'm going to have to take some photos of some local billboards on the French side. Breasts are quite acceptable. I hear the tour guides on the bus tours always give a warning first before they reach them and then try talking about the historic shack on the opposite side of the road. lol

are words you can use- otherwise, I am a little surprise at your media "innocence"-c'mon, don't you listen to the stuff?

-you were smart enough first time to label yourself

as a "progressive" not a "liberal".

You can use "blow job" only if you are reading from a text of a work  that says "blow job". Period.

All bets are off if you're Howard Stern:-)

Of course as I write this I am hearing my upstairs neighbor having raucous sex with her boyfriend in her living room, and it's sad that I'm old enough to want to yell, "don't you have two bedrooms for that? I'm trying to concentrate."

C'est la vie.

nymole December 27, 2005 - 10:49pm

Sorry but I had to add this, as (sick) true as it is!

Blow is just an expression.

Suck, blow is just an expression.

kimmy December 28, 2005 - 12:11am

Well! I managed to get home in time to ring the station...

ultra quick hello from Mike then my mind was assaulted by a rapid blast of advertisements....

now my days are spent listening to commercial free radio, and any television I watch the mute button gets hit real quick...

so I get on air launch into my temperature joke, laugh about kangaroos and google the vodka post...

BUT what I rang up for apart from wishing our radio star seasons greetings was to discuss oral sex... later ;p

graham December 28, 2005 - 12:21am

Or maybe words like those are reserved to be pronounced only by females?

I've heard that in Finland they have lengthy discussions how 's' has been pronounced in the program.

Gandalf December 28, 2005 - 7:28am

Terrible. I'm reporting you to Pat Robertson.

Bucksouth December 29, 2005 - 1:39am

While on the subject, did you hear that Monica Lewinsky apparently voted Republican at the last presidential election?

Apparently the Democrats left a bad taste in her mouth.

geogblog December 29, 2005 - 10:05am

Carib, you sure do make me laugh.

SilverOwl December 27, 2005 - 9:35pm

Lots of good euphemisms have arisen from the puritanical urge to repress our First Amendment right of free speech, especially when it comes to sex.

Take the phrase, "blow job."  Can you think of a more humorous way to put it?  How about

trout gargling

swallowing the microphone

inhaling the foot-long

doing a gag order

jacking with lips

kissing the one-eyed jack

etc.

Mae West made a career out of insinuating about sex without ever actually saying anything "dirty."  Flirting around the naughty stuff makes it more fun, and it keeps the mind sharp.  Sex itself is actually a rather limited activity...well, with me, anyway...[sigh].  But oh boy, can I talk a good game!

Jimbo92107 December 28, 2005 - 2:25am

We have a popular nude beach here

And Disney Cruises wanted to make it less popular?

Gandalf December 28, 2005 - 7:15am

Flambee, you almost cost me a keyboard.  ROFL!

SilverOwl December 27, 2005 - 9:51pm

...go to satellite radio for that one...

On a related note, Sirius has just come on line (legally, at least) up here, and it looks to be big. Can't believe how much stuff I'm seeing about it.

On the plus side of the equation, apparently the whole point of the internet is saying "blowjob".

You could always blame it on convergence...

what the heck does it matter. I am not ashamed of who I am and liberal is not a bad word. But the blow job thingy--I should've known better. I jsut figured, Cialis and 4 hour erections and all, it couldn't hurt. I did have to do some quality groveling to the station manager, however.

Sean Paul Kelley December 28, 2005 - 12:22am

remind him that howard stern was able to do what he did -- bad language and all -- because it got RATINGS. People may complain, but when a station has something (arguably) controversial on its hands, the audience share grows. That translates to ad dollars for the station.

On the provincial attitudes of Americans towards sex: I think you can measure in direct inverse proportion religiosity and sexual repression. One way to keep down our "evil" sexual fantasies is to practice perverted religion.... That is to say Americans have OVERLY active sexual imaginations which they somehow feel the need to suppress by overreacting religiously. Perhaps our Calvinist/Puritan heritage? Many say that's what the Salem Witch trials were really all about.

They didn't want the taxi drivers promoting it to their passengers. Seeing as it's on the other side of the island than the Cruise terminal it's a popular part of an island tour.

Believe it or not, I used to work there running the watersports at the hotel.

www.cluborient.com

Or google Orient Beach and you'll find tons of links, it's the hotspot of the island, about 1 mile long.

Yup, I used to take guests out on nude snorkle trips. A note about nudity though. After a little while you don't even notice it. The resort is clothing optional as is the beach.

Lovely place and sex doesn't even enter into it at all.
