Liberals Should Start Saying Prime Minister Clegg

Kellner on the self-fulfilling prophecy of a landslide.

He has the same take as the numbers I ran: at 38% the Libs start ripping seats in large numbers, and somewhere after 40, are elected outright. He then points to the following poll question:

What is more, far fewer people are deterred by the prospect of a Lib Dem government. We asked people whether they would be delighted or dismayed by different election outcomes – or whether they wouldn’t mind.

Here are the responses:

DelightedWouldn’t mind Dismayed
Lib Dem govt under Nick Clegg 29% 38% 21%
Con govt under David Cameron 25% 20% 45%
Lab govt under Gordon Brown 18% 23% 51%
Labour-Lib Dem coalition 14% 35% 39%
Con-Lib Dem coalition 9% 33% 45%
Grand 3-party coalition 9% 24% 47%

Or to put it another way Ladies and Gentlemen of the Liberal Democratic Party, Clegg is your most powerful weapon. Winning is your most powerful weapon. As long as Clegg is the kingmaker, he is bracketed in the low 30's, but if he is the potential PM, then Labor disintegrates. No option is as appealing to the public as Clegg as PM. So climb the greasy poll.

Say it:

"The events of the last week prove that Britain hungers for real change, and not merely an exchange. The public has asked for new leadership, and a fresh wind of honesty. From here forward, we are running to win this election, and not merely broker it. From this moment we ask Britons to ask themselves: which party would you want to see form the next government, which party do you trust to do as it says, to deliver as it promises, and remember in whose service it is employed. Ask yourself, which leader would you want to see in 10 Downing Street, and which party would you want on the front benches of Westminster, and in the trenches of government, fighting for our nation and our common future."

"The Labor offers us a cage, and the Conservatives offer to put a fresh coat of paint on it. Only one party aims for a new beginning, in a new direction. That is the party that I lead, and with your votes, and your support, and your efforts, that party can lead Britain. We are close, closer than any had thought possible, and closer than the old order thinks probable. But it is what the people want, and it is what the people can have, by taking one simple step, by voting for hope, and not out of fear."

and a Liberal-Dem majority is simply unimaginable. Clegg has posters up now with the words Hope. But here's the thing about Clegg and the Liberal-Dems in Britain. Their Overton Window is so far left of the U.S. What is possible could become such a mirror to the world. Clegg is an impatient Obama without a Tea Party, and a functional Government without a Senate. A Prime Minister in England gets what they want for the first several years!!

Have you SEEN this guys platform:

Amnesty for illegal immigrants
British adoption of the Euro
The immediate withdrawal from Afghanistan
The Freedom Bill to restore and protect our most important liberties. Scrapping the expensive and unnecessary ID Cards
Removal of innocent people from the criminal DNA database
Restoration of the right to protest and freedom of speech (Britain has no Bill of Rights
Starting a massive programm of investment in renewable energy sources such as wind, wave and solar
Transformation of the National Grid into a smart decentralized grid which will respond dynamically to the changing patterns of energy demand
Immediately cutting income tax for the poor
Immediately raising income tax on the rich
Legalization of marijuana and other soft drugs

It has a body of common law. This can be amended by a simple act of Parliament.

but isn't the Magna Carta described as one of the first Constitutions?

But I tend to agree with you, England has no constitution (that I'm aware of), if you view the document physically and legally like that of the USA....

...that the Lib Dems are ready to light the peace pipe.

Good for them. Sounds like the Overton Window is working for once.

but with the next debate being foreign affairs, this issue:

might change the balance yet again. Only the Liberal Democrats do not want a "like for like" replacement of the Trident.

Very well written and entertaining as well. My understanding is that The Independent is a pro Liberal Democrat pub.

I am watching the debate Thursday night, somehow.

How about those "Dismayed" numbers. Could that be the equivalent of a negative rating for the politician representing the party? If so, Mr. Clegg is sitting pretty.

Will he move in for the kill? Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks for the #'s. I'm "delighted!"
