Those who weren't on the streets then probably don't know of the great influence that French students and activists had on US students and anti-war activists in the Sixties. Daniel Cohn-Bendit was a big hero in the US.

So wouldn't discount what is happening elsewhere, especially with the better communications now. It's going to have an effect here.

when I was a grad student after getting out of the military, where I soured on Vietnam after I figured out what was really going down.

I'm still able to type and see the screen (with magnification), and it's another generation's turn to hit the street and man the barricades.

However, this time it is going to be a lot more dangerous to organize, given the ability of the government to spy on communications and to disappear potential "domestic terrorists" before they can do anything. All the levers are in place.
