SOPA and PIPA Get A Beatdown

I think it's pretty safe to say that SOPA and PIPA took a beat down yesterday:

First, the Senate version:

The Senate PROTECT IP Act, which began the day with 40 official sponsors, today lost at least four of them: Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) John Boozman (R-Ark.) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah). Hatch is a major defection, as the senator is the co-chairman of the Congressional International Anti-Piracy Caucus.

And now the House version:

In the House, the Stop Online Piracy Act has lost at least two of the 30 sponsors it had entering the protest: Rep. Ben Quayle (R-Ariz.) withdrew his support on Tuesday, and a spokesman for Rep. Lee Terry said the Nebraska Republican planned to do the same on Wednesday.

Also of note: conservative think-tank The Heritage Foundation came out in opposition too. All in all a pretty good day. Now, why is Al Franken still a co-sponsor of PIPA?

Because he is a clown?

He was a clown before he became a senator. Now he's a politician.

That said, many entertainers believe that IP law is the only thing that allows them to get fairly paid for what they do. (Notwithstanding the fact that there were professional entertainers before IP, and most of them today get royally screwed under the prevailing system.)

O yea the guy who's family "fled cuba to escape communism."
Very odd because his family came over in 1956. He is a scary dude.
It turns out: During his tenure serving as Speaker of the House of Florida, Rubio shared his residence with another Florida State Representative, David Rivera.[14] The two men co-owned a home together in Tallahassee, which later fell into foreclosure after deferring months of mortgage payments. This issue surfaced in June 2010, during Rubio's run for the US Senate but was considered resolved according to Rubio's spokesman
