Senator Coburn Tells Norquist To Take A Hike

I'm not really sure what to make of this. My inner idealist is hopeful, that a Republican Senator would tell America's leading anti-tax zealot to take a hike seems like great news:

“Which pledge is most important… the pledge to uphold your oath to the Constitution of the United States or a pledge from a special interest group who claims to speak for all American conservatives when, in fact, they really don’t?” Coburn asked. “The fact is we have enormous urgent problems in front of us that have to be addressed and have to be addressed in a way that will get 60 votes in the Senate… and something that the president will sign.”

At the same time my inner skeptic cannot help but wonder. Coburn is, after all, a Republican, which to me means any tax raise would likely fall on the middle class and not the super-rich. Time will tell, I suppose.

He didn't talk about raising taxes. He talked about not lowering tax rates.

Specifically, and this is in keeping with his past statements, he seemed to indicate he'd be all for closing tax loopholes, while lowering rates. His only statement was to "raise net tax revenues".

So buhbye mortgage interest deduction!

the only thing that matters is how they vote. Remember Arlen Specter's little fun and games with words? He'd raise a big stink and make a show, then vote just so like a good little flunky.

Obama too, it's not even worth putting in print what he says anymore, only his actions have weight and they point in a very clear direction.
