The Byzantines

All the writer had to do was check wikipedia, or just google it to get his or her facts right. Of course, that would be asking too much from the writers at Newsweak.

Seriously, the errors in this "Global Greats" photo montage are pretty pathetic. The worst offender? Calling the Byzantine Empire the 'Holy Roman Empire.' See slide three. I mean, that's just awful. The Holy Roman Empire was founded when Charlemagne was crowned on Christmas Day, 800AD. His coronation seriously pissed off the Byzantines as well.

Scroll through the rest of them and see what errors you can find.

My impression is the Roman Empire was already in decline by the 4th century and the decline started with military defeats in the EAST!

Somewhat different explanation in Wikipedia, It did split into sovereign states; infighting? But remained strong as an empire until the Chinese Emperors fall when it retreated into Mongolia in the 17th century.

Course not, I mean the largest military in the world, bases around the world, a deep water navy that can project power anywhere; all for defense of the homeland. Ignore the fact that you can walk into almost any major city in the world and find American business establishments. The US currency is the world's defacto reserve currency. I keep remembering the US is not quite a classic empire; it is the all time biggest empire in history!

Maybe Sean Paul should get a white house invite - that is if the likes of Newsweek writers (who he corrects) can get in.

Can it be any wonder that elitism for the sake of elitism has been shown to be so bankrupt? I welcome the collapse of newspapers and hope the broadcasters go tumbling after them.
