Domination

I don't know how many of you watched the World Series game last night. Needless to say it was a disappointment to me in that the Yankees lost.

And yet, to be able to watch pitching such as Cliff Lee delivered last night was a really bittersweet pleasure. He just dominated. His fielding was positively insouciant, as well.

It's been a long time since I've seen pitching like that in a World Series game.

That being said, the Fox Sports anchors were positively wretched, as they have been throughout the playoffs.

Tonight is game two. Go Yankees!

You never watched the Twins in their first World Series win?

Cliff Lee pitched a masterpiece last night. Against a Yankees team stuffed with high-buck all-stars, for eight innings Lee shut down everybody except the amazing Derek Jeter. Lee's curve ball appeared to bend two feet, and he kept everything down in the zone and away from the middle.

Meanwhile, the umpiring crew at least didn't blow any major calls in the field, but still managed to make a good argument for instant replay. Every other professional sport now takes advantage of instant replay, to their benefit. It's time for technology to call balls and strikes when the TV audience sees umpires consistently getting it wrong. The embarrassing strike zone graphics are matched only by videos like the one last night, where Rollins caught a low liner, then tossed the ball to first for an easy double play. Base runner Matsui was caught so flatfooted, he just stood there as if he had no idea what to do. The umpires conferred for five full minutes while TV viewers everywhere were screaming at their sets, "Look at the damn video, you idiots!"

Time those idiots looked at the video.

duking it out for large market teams that could afford to pay them.

Baseball won't get my money until they have a salary cap, like every other major U.S. sport. The Yankees and Red Sox dominate every year only because they spend far more money than small and mid-market teams can afford to pay.

Way to buy yourselves penants in the pseudo-sport of major league baseball.

I won't be interrupting my viewing of football, basketball and hockey to watch who did the best job of scarfing up talent developed on less affluent teams that can't afford to keep their best players.

lack of salary caps stops teams from winning when the New York Yankees who have the deepest pockets, haven't won the pennant since 2003? It’s one of the very few sports that I'll sit more than 30 minutes to watch and usually never fail to see the last few innings of a final game.

Different teams have different business models. The big-money teams pay top dollar for star talent, and make it back when people come to watch the stars play. Mid-money teams pay a smaller amount and make smaller revenues from the regional fans. They're both businesses.
