Israel Hits Back With Its Own Linkage

It took a few days but the Likudniks in Bibi's government are peddling a story now basically defying the message Rahm Emmanuel sent them a week ago:

"It's a crucial condition if we want to move forward," said Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Ayalon, a member of the Israeli parliament and former ambassador to the United States. "If we want to have a real political process with the Palestinians, then you can't have the Iranians undermining and sabotaging."

How I want to be a fly on the wall in Emmanuel's office right now. I think Bibi defies Obama at his own very real risk. Then again, Emmanuel's threat couldn't go unanswered.

In other, similar matters, in wake of the brewing Harman scandal, news arrives that the US is now pondering not prosecuting those involved in the whole AIPAC spying episode:

The U.S. government may abandon espionage-law charges against two former lobbyists for a pro-Israel advocacy group, officials said yesterday, as a prominent House lawmaker denied new allegations that she offered to use her influence in their behalf.

I'd add that Col. Lang is more than right about this: the big media like the Post and the Times are trying to take the heat off Harman. Just read the Post article and note how it conflates two very different story lines, corruption and espionage and makes them both seem so 'anodyne.'

so the Israeli regime probably figures it's worth a shot to see if he, and by extension the Obama regime, can be walked back on other things.

At a time when the Harman scandal is focusing attention on the power of the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in Congress, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman is quoted in his very first interview on foreign policy as saying “Believe me, America accepts all our decisions.”
