This is certainly not the kind of news one enjoys seeing when one is planning on visiting Cambodia via a Thai border or perhaps leaving Cambodia via a Thai border. I guess I'd be safer going to Myanmar.
If I may suggest; do some checking before going to Burma (Myanmar is the Junta's name) it may be okay at the border where you will go for a visa run in Cambodia (Kampuchea). This is a fairly local event at this time (the PREAH VIHEAR temple). Yes, it could get worse, but hopefully cooler heads will prevail. Neither country needs this, especially at this time. Call the visa run companies in BKK and see what they are doing. Hey, it could be an adventure, yes, no? There is a job teaching at a government high school in my area if you are interested after you finish your CELTA. PM me if you are interested. Cheers.
...my reason for my suggestion is simply that Ranong is at least twice as far as the Cambodian alternative. However, if you have the time, Ranong if far more beautiful.
