Ain't No Dukakis Moment Here

I gotta tell you, the photos coming out of Obama's trip sure look good. Not a hint, not even remotely of any of them being turned into a Dukakis moment.

Looks presidential to me. But then after almost 8 years of commander codpiece, I reckon even Yosemite Sam would look presidential. Hell, maybe even Elmer Fudd.

And on balance, let me just add a little mea culpa here. This trip he took was a lot more effective and a lot more important than his missing Netroots Nation. (In the parlance of hockey, it was a Hat Trick.) There, I said it. Can I still be a narcissist, please?

I agree that there (probably) won't be a Dukakis moment. The Obama camp has been incredibly savvy with projecting and protecting Obama's image and brand. So it's hard to see them hand the press a gimme.

Also, when I came across this shot above I was quite pleased to see the Times run with it. It's quite a powerful visual as it speaks directly to Obama's strengths and his arguments for what kind of leader he would be.

However, not so fast. See Michael Shaw's must read comparitive analysis here.

I'm starting however to see a mixed bag in how the candidates are portrayed. See this recent not-so-flattering photo of McCain from the Times.

On the whole, McCain still retains a privileged position over Obama with the press. Perhaps they're hedging their bets just a little?
