Our Man In Afghanistan

Update: We are so close, folks, if you haven't given already, please do. (And the excuse, "I gave at the office" doesn't count. Only $10 gets us world class coverage of Afghanistan FROM Afghanistan.

Things are looking much better for our man in Afghanistan, Joshua Foust. But folks, I hate to ask, believe me, but I've put my own money where my keypad is, so I am going to ask: dig deep folks. We need $600 more to make this a reality. Please, just $10 from 60 of you will make this happen and we will have live blogging from the key front of our dual wars. Click here and send Josh to Afghanistan.

To hell with that candy-ass $10 crap, up it to $25 each. That's what I threw in the pot and I'm unemployed! Now get crackin' you slackers.

Um, hello? WAR ZONE???

"The Department of State continues to strongly warn U.S. citizens against travel to Afghanistan. No part of Afghanistan should be considered immune from violence, and the potential exists throughout the country for hostile acts, either targeted or random, against American and other western nationals at any time."

So, you're putting someone's life at risk and when bullshit is called the best you've got is, "No balls, no blue chips?"

dsquared July 17, 2008 - 11:46am

everyone said, "don't go, the US could bomb at any moment." In 2003 I traveled from Istanbul overland through all of central Asia and tried to get into Afghanistan. I would go. In a heartbeat. So don't give me this, "I'm putting someone else's life on the line guilt bullshit." As I said, if I had the chance I would go in a heartbeat. You want to pay for me to go? Well, put your money where your mouth is. I'll do it. I'll go.

SP on this. I know for a fact he once had a trip cancelled to Afghanistan by external factors beyond his control. I don't think there's much of anywhere SP wouldn't visit.

Some people don't mind physical danger that much. Some people don't like physical danger at all. The people who want to do dangerous things shouldn't be held back from doing the things they want to do, so long as they don't harm others, because those who abhor risk wouldn't do it themselves. If the guy wants to go, it's his choice. If he dies, I'll say and mean "he died doing what he wanted to do".

It's the folks who don't do what they enjoy, what they want to do, because of fear or caution who I pity.

and SPK's not "sending" Josh there. it seems that Josh has decided he wants to go.

I may be interpreting this wrong, but I would imagine this is fundraising to make his trip more comfortable - and undoubtedly more secure.

only Americans can contribute (I don't live in a state and I don't have a zip code). Is there a way around this?

Once you select your country, the form refreshes after a couple seconds, replacing State with Province and Zip Code with Postal Code.

you're sure about all this.

See Here and other story links in the sidebars.

Might be a good idea to obtain a solid listing of what are considered to be "blasphemous" comments before posting anything from anywhere in Afghanistan. It's very important to keep a firm grip on one's head when traveling in foreign parts.

Beats spending the money on such pulp wasters as WAPO LA Times or NYTimes
