Hillary and Obama Flame Fest

I got nothing today. So, here is a Flame Fest solely dedicated to 'sexists against Hillary' and 'racists against Obama'! As always, the rules are: no porn, no incitements to violence and don't take any of what is said in this thread personally.

I thought the results were 'racists against Obama' and 'sexists against Obama'. It seems that the people who care about that stuff, or, at least the ones that admit to it, are generally in favor of Hillary.

Considering that she's does better among the older and less educated, that's really not surprising.

NateTG March 6, 2008 - 10:58am

the young uneducated lean towards Obama?

Tina March 6, 2008 - 11:02am

I think the balance of *isms in the primaries is why the race is so close. However... there will be no such balance in November. Sad to say, I think McCain will win against either of them. My faith in the American people isn't such that I can believe they'll vote for either one in a race against a white man (even if he didn't dodge the draft).

johnnyel March 6, 2008 - 11:04am

unless, somehow, the Dems manage to nail McCain on his twists and turns.....

Bloomberg - ...``I'm more of an old-fashioned, blue-collar person,'' said Richard Dorsch, a 53-year-old paramedic fire chief from Chicago's Edison Park. ``I can't support him.''

Dorsch, who said his kids liken him to Archie Bunker, voted for Clinton in the primary, though he plans to support Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona if Obama wins the nomination.

``When he talks to you, it's like he's talking down to you,'' Dorsch said. ``He doesn't have the experience to talk like that.''

nymole March 6, 2008 - 9:18pm

I agree. I wonder why there've been no polls on how a ticket with both of them would do against McCain. Considering there were 3 times as many active in some of the Democrat primaries as in the Republican ones (except there were so many Repubs playing in the Democrat events), Dems could afford to lose a large percentage of voters to dismay over either candidate joining the other.

I...just...can't...help it!

That brings out the funniest in you, Rick.
But I see we'll have to wait...:-)

I'm not defending Hillary on this but did find this:

Did Clinton Darken Obama's Skin?
March 5, 2008
Some Obama backers cry "racism." We find the accusation to be unsubstantiated.

Summary:

Obama supporters on the Internet are agitated over the apparent darkening of Obama's image in a Clinton attack ad.

Our video team took a look. Our conclusions:

* The Obama frames from the ad do appear darker than other video of Obama from the same event.

* However, the YouTube copy of the ad, on which the bloggers base their conclusions, is darker overall than other copies of the ad. We obtained a digital recording of the ad as it actually appeared on a Texas TV station, and it is lighter.

* Furthermore, our analysis of the Obama frames, using Photoshop, shows a fairly uniform darkening of the entire image including the backdrop. It is not just Obama's skin color that's affected.

* Also, nearly all the images in the ad are dark, including those of Hillary Clinton. And dark images are a common technique used in attack ads.

Others will speculate about the Clinton campaign's intentions and motives, as they already have. But without further evidence to the contrary, we see no reason to conclude that this is anything more than a standard attempt to make an attack ad appear sinister, rather than a special effort to exploit racial bias as some Obama supporters are saying.

didn't they do the same thing with OJ on time magazine?

luminance would maybe shift when its uploaded to youtube, but i dont think the desaturation would occur like that. if those cool cats have the fresh digital version they ought to share it?

release it and the campaign deserves the hits if it was deliberate. I pretty much stayed away from the story because I don't know enough about
photo manipulation to make an assessment.

a) "Fish" is to "Iquana"
b) "Screen Door" is to "Submarine"
c) "Beating" is to "Dead Horse"

At least the Clinton campaign had the good sense not to release their first attempt at doctoring.

really weary of all the sniping back and forth and to be honest I don't really care who the nominee is since I would vote for Mortimer Snerd before I would vote for any rethug out there. I am so effing tired of the analysis and then the parsing of the analysis and then on and on ad nauseum.

So, I am taking nominations for taunting. Public figures only, no Agonistas please (well maybe a few).

(OK - so I lied about staying out of this thread!)

Clinton aide compares Obama to Ken Starr

Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson, taking the campaign a bit meta on a conference call today, attacked Obama for attacking Clinton, and compared him to a notorious Clinton foe.

"When Senator Obama was confronted with questions over whether he was ready to be Commander-in-Chief and steward of the economy, he chose not to address those questions, but to attack Senator Clinton," Wolfson said. "I for one do not believe that imitating Ken Starr is the way to win a Democratic primary election for president."

Wolfson was attacking Obama's explicit strategy, in the wake of his March 4 losses, to attack elements of Clinton's record on the grounds of secrecy, and to revisit the questions raised by Clinton foes in the 1990s and earlier. Obama has demanded Clinton's tax returns, cited delays in releasing her White House schedules, and even made reference to trades in cattle futures in the late 1970s that became a subject of allegations during the White House years.

Wolfson also responded to the substance of Obama's complaint, that Clinton hasn't released her recent tax returns, and to the reminder today that Clinton (via Wolfson) attacked her 2000 Senate rival, Rick Lazio, for failing to release his tax returns.

Hillary Clinton: the kind of person who likes to have her cake and yours, too.

or, ummm, "figuratively?"

Doug Richardson March 7, 2008 - 11:50am

from Wikipedia:

To wish to have one's cake and eat it too or simply have one's cake and eat it (sometimes eat one's cake and have it too) is to want more than one can handle or deserve, or to try to have two incompatible things. This is a popular English idiomatic proverb, or figure of speech.

The phrase's earliest recording is from 1546 as "wolde you bothe eate your cake, and have your cake?" (John Heywood's 'A dialogue Conteinyng the Nomber in Effect of All the Prouerbes in the Englishe Tongue') alluding to the impossibility of eating your cake and still having it afterwards; the modern version (where the clauses are reversed) is a corruption which was first signalled in 1812.

Paul Brians, Professor of English at Washington State University, points out that the original and only sensible version of this saying is “You can’t eat your cake and have it too,” meaning that if you eat your cake you won’t have it any more. People get confused because we use the expression “have some cake” to mean “eat some cake,” and they therefore misunderstand what “have” means in this expression.[1] Alternatively, people understand that "have" and "eat" represent a sequence of actions, so one can indeed "have" one's cake and then "eat" it. Consequently, the literal meaning of the reversed idiom doesn't match the metaphorical meaning.

Ergo, the snarky version reads: "I want to have my cake and yours, too" and implies that I'm a greedy bastich.

If I have to break it down into fewer, smaller words for ya Doug, just let me know. I'll be here all day.

Rick March 7, 2008 - 12:58pm

thanks ever so much.

Please take note of those little marks on either side of the word figuratively...they're called quotes. I used them because, like you, I was being a "bastich" and referring to the effects of too much cake on Herself's figure when viewed from the rear.

That's what we need: Hillary, the "I'll say and anything to be President!". Nice message. Wonder is that indicates that she means nothing of what she says.

And oh yeah, how is she gonna do in a CIC versus CIC head to head with John McCain pilot, war hero, backer of the Successful Surge, and POW? That is a sure fired winner, you go girl.

the term "monster" was actually a very conservative description of Hillary. This promises to be the most raucus rigged election in years.
Obama is still playing softball. When the gloves come off he can bring up the theft of whitehouse furniture, the 180 plus dead associates of the Clintstones etc. etc. If he wants to really go for the jugglar he can bring up Chinagate or Wantagate, and then theres the Childrens Fund Hillary set up in Canada, I would ask for an audit or the records. I dont want Obama or McLame but it would be fun to watch the whole farse go critical and meltdown.
