Romney Is Out?

CNN is reporting, via "three sources" that say Romney will suspend his campaign. Times has the news up as well, but still no full story. More here. So, this means the Republicans have the choice of a true conservative and a 'fake' maverick? Wow. I wonder how principled they will be?

With Romney's history of flip flops, how soon does he "unquit"? LOL

Well, especially after the West Virginia collusion, he may be looking to see what Huckabee does. At this point, it's really the Dem's race to loose anyway.

How, he does not even have the gumption to quit. Suspend. What a waffler!

Become the nominee at this point!

"If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror," Romney told the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.

He could have at least waited until Washington state in 2 days to see if he'd win that. If he had, he could've focused on a follow up victory in Wisconsin. But I guess like others who see the writing on the wall, he's had enough.

Not gonna happen, though.

I agree that Huckabee is not McCain's first choice. He's good friends with Lindsay Graham and is more comfortable with him. He's also fond of Tom Ridge and is considering George Pataki as well. Fred Thompson is not out of the picture either. Another thing is, it's one thing for many of us to hold the opinion that Huckabee would be best for McCain, but there's no reason to assume McCain would think the same thing. If he does settle on Huckabee (assuming he wins which I'm not yet convinced he will) it would be more of a default choice, like when Nixon picked Ford as a last resort.
