World War III Is Upon Us

Oh dear, it seems World War Three 2.0 (yes, 2.0, remember last year and the Hebollahi-Israeli war was 1.0) is now only weeks away. Why? Because Syria has invaded Lebanon. And the 101st Fighting Keyboarders are ready to defend Israel--after all, the Jews must be converted come the Rapture--and America, baseball and apple pie for all that is good and free and holy from the raging Shi'a hordes that those dastardly Iranians will unleash via their Syrian proxy. Meanwhile our ally in the fight against Shi'a world hegemony are ready to strike a blow for us.

It'll be great, just like the movie 300, morally certain and pure, good versus evil and good will prevail!

The enemy of our enemy is our crazy roommate that always drinks straight from *our* milk jug? Is that right?

...the 101st is always ready (Semper Paratus) to unfurl their colors wherever evilness lurks to defend the American virtues of selfishness, intolerance, and ignorarance. And the 82nd Chairborne is ready to back them up!

...to the Coast Guard motto, however true.

it was particularly dastardly for those evil Syrians to time their invasion to coincide with Totten's brief time away! I shudder to think what new nefarious scheme they have in mind while he's back in Iraq!

I've got serious issues with the Coast Guard getting credit for the Boy Scout motto, not to mention a case of cognitive dissonance over the conclusion that the "good guys" won the Battle of Thermopylae. The Persians were depicted as bad, were they not? They won. The beautiful homoerotic Greeks lost.

I am also somewhat at sea since I cannot figure out whether Syria invaded Lebanon or not; when a week goes by and no large news organization so much as mentions an international conflict of that magnitude I suspect another Death of Khamenei -- that is, an initial, mistaken, news report that has yet to be retracted.

...I don't remember hearing "Semper Paratus." I DO remember the english "Be Prepared," on their logo.

The Coast guard is about the same age as the Scouts, but its antecedants date back to the 1790's, so I find it hard to believe the USCG ripped off their motto from the Boy Scouts, considering several Army units also use "Semper Paratus."

In every word and every deed,
Be prepared,
That's the Boy Scout's solemn Creed.

Don't solicit for your sister,
That's not nice.
Unless you get a good percentage
of her price.

...Sorry, my Jim Leher songbook is in a box somewhere.

...said somthing like:

Hide your dope when your scoutmaster comes in...
Or he'll insist that it be shared.

Be prepared!
