Apparently The Stars Are . . .

. . . aligning on this whole "Iran Arming the Taliban" story, as Nick Burns has chimed in:

"There's irrefutable evidence the Iranians are now doing this and it's a pattern of activity," U.S. Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns told CNN.

Irrefutable? Show me, don't tell me, ok?

Meanwhile the AP opened the day with the same splash. Except they qualified it:

The State Department later appeared to step back from Burns' assertion the Iranian government was directly involved in the transfers but stressed Washington has proof that weapons from Iran were being sent to Taliban fighters in Afghanistan.

At this point I'm still highly dubious, after all, they never conclusively proved the whole EFP flim-flammery, so I'm disinclined to trust them on a this. Cernig makes the best case I've seen so far.

Iran: Conflicting claims reveal US rift

The evidence that Iran is arming the Taliban isn't as "irrefutable" as some US officials are claiming, says the US NATO commander in Afghanistan. He points to more likely sources for the arms, such as drugs and weapons smugglers. The anti-Iran language used by the accusers points to Vice President Dick Cheney, who would like nothing more than an invasion of Iran before his boss leaves office. - Gareth Porter (Jun 21, '07)
