It's Hardly The Worst . . .

. . . news ever, this ABC report on Bush's authorization of covert action against Iran. Fact is, the Democrats should really get credit for keeping the crazies in the box on this one, as noted in the article:

"Vice President Cheney helped to lead the side favoring a military strike," said former CIA official Riedel, "but I think they have come to the conclusion that a military strike has more downsides than upsides."

Trust me, they didn't come to that decision from a place of logic, as this Administration has amply proven logic is not necessary in motivating its actions. Threats of preemptive funding cuts from Congress are probably what did the trick.

Every neocon blogger and pundit is on the same page - the leak destroyed any chance of this covert op working so now there's no option except to attack Iran.

And they're blaming the "liberal" media and traitors at Langley...

Considering the lockstep response, my money's on the leak coming from Cheney's office as a spoiler.

...from Congress, as the professional military advice. A number of stories have made mention of the willingness of some senior folks and many mid-level folks to resign rather than push through an attack of choice on Iran. Add to that the solid stuff coming out of the Iranian scholarly foreign policy community and the increasing rise of a professional Iran class at State (i.e., the Riga station analogue) and it becomes a good deal tougher thing to push through.

It was so obvious to me that the criminal Bush regime could get the false flag operation they needed with the Jundullah I didn't even bother to state the assumption. So the crazies are hardly back in their box.

When the going gets tough, the tough get foily...
