Seriously, I know they hate Al, but this is nuts.
apparently:
NYT
I spoke too soon:
About 1/3 way down the page it appears
eom
that he might get drafted for Presidential nominee.
And who knows, they might even have some nice GOP funding for doing it :)

they'll take their talking points straight from the RNC without any prompting. Heck, they've already got a whole closet-full of made-up stories they could just retell. And rest assured many so-called "liberal" journalists and op-ed writers will do just as much damage to Gore as the conservatives.
while it's true their standards have slipped they still undeniably use better quality paper than the National Enquirer does.
I could just say "Creative writing?" and stop there. But I think Gore is some kind of scapegoat for the press. They are stuck in Washington with their phony lives, addicted to their own DC game, and Gore has broken free of those limitations he once shared with all those beholden to political capital. Gore is purged and those left to cover him are not, so in some kind of freudian way, they have to project their own sufferings and self-hatred on to him.
i don't doubt they absolutely, passionately hate gore - there's just too much evidence...
what i don't get is why?
not why they may dislike him, but why he is so passionately and uniformly HATED. it just doesn't make sense to me... does anyone really know? and if you do, can you explain it to me real slow, please?
Limbaugh did a lot of damage to Gore on the right in 90s and engendered a kind of disgust with him, as there is disgust with Bush on the left. What I don't understand is why some on the left or in the middle don't like him.
He did win the popular vote and would be a better candidate than most out there.

BTW - The dead tree version has the caption front and center reading, "Al Gore waiting for his car yesterday in Washington after a speech. He will be in the Capitol today."
The "recovering alcoholic" statement was a riff on Gore's own reference to himself as a "recovering politician" and in that context returning to Congress to testify (especially given the rarity of former POTUSs and VPs doing so) was analogous to a recovering alcoholic returning to his old bar. It's not perjorative, it's a literary device.
therein lies the problem.
"There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all argument, and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance. This principle is, contempt prior to examination."
is usually 90% truth.
