You Tube Sucks

Just like Google, You-Tube is now extremely arbitrary in their actions with users. My account, while I was in Iran, was 'permanently suspended.' I'd only received one email before about copyright infringement. And believe me, what I posted fell clearly within fair use guidelines. But alas, they've been bought by Google, and we all know how horribly arbitrary Google is:

There is totally no way to defend you against this, you get no warning at all if a clip has been flagged, you just have to come to the conclusion whilst browsing your video archive. This particular clip was uploaded in September last year. It’s been on there for months, and all of the sudden the content isn’t appropriate anymore?

Moreover, You-Tube's utility as an archive has clearly dimished:

Anyway, I’m done with YouTube, almost. It is clear they have no interest in preserving a digital archive of video content for the future, and that I cannot rely on them for posterity. I will continue to look for video sharing services, but it is clear YouTube has value merely as a bandwidth saver, not as an actual utility for web publishing. Any video I link to or embed can dissapear at a moments notice because of an unrelated and questionably legal video.

Feel free to continue to use You-Tube links and embeds here at The Agonist, but I'll be looking for something better. A service that actually lives up to its own motto. After all, what was all that stuff about 'Don't Be Evil?'

Just crap if you ask me.

I had to join to reply to this. I googled youtube sucks and you all are #4 in that category, lol.
Anyway, I had over 90 videos on youtube. Most were home videos. No cussing, no nudity, not much violence. None that would be considered bad. I might have had a few movie clips. Having said all that, youtube yanked my whole site and said it's gone for good.

My thoughts on youtube,
YouTube was bought out by Google. There is always a reason for the madness in big business, 'my belief anyway, lol. So what we have here is a in-genius plot to control the media. A lot of my videos were leaning to the political right. I didn't push them, I just had them. Still do on my drive. I'm thinking they (Google) are controlling the media. That's pretty much it. Why on earth would they buy YouTube for 1.5 billion? That doesn't add up. Not at all. Not even if they paid $100,000. Google could have easily created their own similar format and better. They did this for a reason and the reason is clear as day. Ebaumsworld has their own format. I could name off a hundred more, but why? I think I've made my point, LOL.

The question now is, what are they going to do with that power. Delete/Allow. Hmmmmmm.

Will we become a police state? Or is some country secretly setting up the chess pieces and quite possibly have the U.S. in checkmate already? $1.5 billion? Come on. That's a joke and a lie.
It's a front for a perfect storm.

I hope I'm posting this in the right spot.

Thanks and I've saved my stuff.
My email is crazyken@myway.com

Have a nice day. If you find something better than YouTube let me know. I'm in the process of creating my 4th move to a new site with unlimited bandwidth, lol. I could use some flash knowledge in Phoenix, AZ. I want to create my own YouTube. I think I'll call it, KensTube LOL

See ya, hahahaha

Supposedly the rationale behind Web 2.0 is the "Wisdom of the Masses".... yet their comment mechanism doesn't allow any slashdot like moderation.

The result is either no comments or a rash of the most bigotted and racist trolls.

http://www.metacafe.com seems to be better, (just on the basis of the few clips I have seen there.) I have no idea how the rest of their performance is.

Do you think that somebody didn't like your clip and performed a sabotage by complaining? And You-Tube didn't think twice while clearing the complain.

Someone comes out with something good and independent, then they get offered big bucks.......then whoosh, there goes independence. TV media is controlled by only 5 companies.........sometimes I fear it will be controlled by even less.

of your rope with free video hosts?

Perhaps it's time to investigate what it would cost to host your videos yourself with a commercial account?

Not free hosts

Just a suggestion. It does sound like you have had difficulties with more than one free host, either with copyright or other issues?

is a reality here in Finland in Eniro's discussion boards. And in Wikipedia too. Of course, the same practice must be in the USA too.

If I ask a difficult question from a political candidate here in a public meeting, somebody arrives soon to ask me why I "harass" the candidate.

Political material which somebody doesn't like will be attacked by sideline complaints.

is that ASCII text is where the Agonist packs 99% of its punch, so although it is very pleasant to have embedded video and pics, I really wouldn't care if they disappeared and I don't depend on them.

And when video's desirable and crucial, one must bear in mind that the internet is insurgency writ large. What makes the internet new and revolutionary is that there are too many individual throats to squeeze shut, too many printing presses to smash.

Making YouTube a central and visible command and control facility is begging for a single smart bomb.

My mother tells me that she HAS to file with IRS electronically. I have a severe problem with HAS TO FILE ELECTRONICALLY. What if
1. She does not have $900.00 to purchase a personal computer
2. She can not afford the internet service fee.
3. She does not want to pay a professional for "tax services".
4. Has no desire to support the technology of the Anti-Christ.

just may have a slight concern about Windows XP service pack 156 and it's attempt to "fix" the "security" "vulnerabilities" in the previous 155 "updates". Need I say more?

Why does YouTube Suck???
Everyone knows YouTube sucks, please write your comments and share with us below!
1. Everytime you send the YouTube "staff" an email to complain about an issue, have a question, to report a problem they respond back to you with a link to the automated help section! Even if you SPECIFIY in the email to NOT respond to you with a link to the automated help section they do it anyway!
2. Sometimes they might respond weeks later
3. At least twice a day their site malfunctions, and videos get frozen after two seconds
4. The site malfunctions all the time and the members have to wait until the weekday for them to fix the issue
5. Sometime you upload a video for 20 minutes and then in the last second YouTube disconnects on you and tells to sign in again! And you LOOSE your video and have to REupload it for another 20 minutes.
These are some of the things that piss me off about you tube, please share with us below the problems YOU have with You Tube!

Check out my Blogger, and feel free to add your comments!

and we get what we pay for.

Some day soon, they'll begin offering fee structures that will "enhance your viewing experience", i.e., work better, and eventually anyone uploading content will have to have a subscription to post a clip longer than 10 seconds or so.

It's the internet life cycle; enjoy the free stuff for what it is, while it is.

I have had the same problems with You Tube.
Last week my account was suspended without reason.
You Tube has too many rules, and is technically unstable.
I have moved my account to Daily Motion. Daily Motion is more relaxed, and is better. They allow 20 minute videos, where You Tube only allows 10 minutes.
I am trying to get all of the pissed off You Tube people over to Daily Motion:

My account was just suspended and an email notification 'your account suspended for inappropriate content' which is totally wrong. I dont know how my videos became inappropriate because the same video was posted by more than 15 and increasing you tubers about the security situation in my country sri lanka (same video provided by sri lanka defense ministry). other videos remain appropriate while my video being removed stating its inappropriate and my account suspended for no ethical reason. I am thoroughly disappointed about their account cancellation and hope they would give my account and the videos back.

GIHAN December 2, 2007 - 5:28am

I've just about had it with MoneyTube. There's been an increasing number of videos which contain hate speech and death threats against other users. YouTube lets these videos stay up (claiming they don't violate the TOS,) but they jump on anyone who posts a short clip from a TV show or movie. I've opened accounts with veoh.com and vimeo.com. The haters, bigots and terrorists can continue to pollute YouTube for all I care.

have you tried the MySpace video uploading thing?
