This is National News?

What kind of alternative universe do we live in? Our media is so brain dead that it is now reporting on a blog post by a Lamont fan--not campaign staff, not even a Lamont volunteer, just a fan and supporter--as if it is news of national import. Never mind that Iraq is falling apart. Never mind trying to get Joe Lieberman's newly shifting position on the war in print, or his opponents views on Lebanon, Israel, Hezbollah and the like. You mean to tell me the fate of Joe Lieberman hangs on what an unaffiliated blogger did or did not do?

Of course it does! Our media has to cover the faux outrage over the photo, because to cover the other issues is to betray their complicity in the national disaster we are all facing. Here's what I would tell the media and my critics had I been the one to post the photo: bite me, people in this country are far, far to insensitive to this stuff. Go watch an episode of Mind of Mencia and grow a pair. In the meantime, had I been the Lamont campaign I would have told the media to focus on the real issues of the campaign instead of focusing on bloggers. Let's talk about how Joe Lieberman has enabled the Republicans to create this gigantic catastrophe.

If the media thinks we bloggers are so inconsequential, why the attack? Why bother with us at all? Why can't you report on Rumsfeld's lies instead. They're just a little bit more important, ya dig?

Bloggers tend to complain about the MSM and yet take offense when the criticism comes the other way. She (Firedoglake) is closely connected with Ned's campaign. So much so that her blog is one of a relatively few that are linked on his campaign website. It was an error in judgment to post that picture and she should be accountable for it. I am totally invested in this blogosphere concept but the time has come to accept that with growing influence there comes equally growing responsibility. The blogs, especially myleftnutmeg.com have played a huge role in Ned's campaign. One hopes the MSM will also find instances to report positively on blogs. It's not likely, they feel threatened by the influence of the blogs, but still no more reason to provide them grist for negative reporting.
