Net Neutrality Notes

Jeff Pulver, at Pulver media, has a challenge for we net denizens. It's a viral marketing campaign aiming to get net neutrality out there in the public consciousness. He makes an excellent point too:

But, where is the voice and message of the Internet community -- the Internet innovators, entrepreneurs and enthusiasts -- in this world-changing discussion? We are primarily sitting out the battle, or perhaps comfortably blogging and Monday-morning quarterbacking on the sidelines. Sure, we’ll be able to point to our blogs and do a big “I-told-you-so” if the rules ultimately prove to undermine the promise of the Internet. But, we will not be justified in our criticism if we don’t at least try to affect a positive result.

Russell Shaw at ZDNet is happy with Pulver's idea but not with the way MoveOn has pushed for statutory neutrality. Shaw writes:

Let me tell you why. Many more Senators and Congressmen who oppose net neutrality tend to be of a political stripe that's against most if not all of what MoveOn.org stands for.

Shaw has a point, only inasmuch as his criticism helps to further the dominant media and conservative narrative that MoveOn is comprised of crazy left-wing loonies. It's not. And at least they are doing something, instead of just pontificating. Ya dig?
