Horse-doody

This is simply horse doody:

500,000 per month (page views) is virtually unattainable for 99.999% of all bloggers.

It's happening for more and more bloggers out there, just look at the stats. Steve Rubel covers this stuff like white on rice and while I can do without reading favorable reference to Tom 'Flathead' Friedman, his blog makes good reading if you're into the business side of blogging and social media.

Back to the point: Meckler's already wrong: Advertise Liberally has a 90% rate of attainment, so far, from only the blogs that particpate in network. What about the poli-blogs that don't? And other blogs, not into politics at all?

Guys like Meckler are sharks, similar to Nick Denton, low-balling it and lowering expectations because sometime in the near future there will be a buying frenzy of blogs and the blogspace. Meckler wants to keep the bidding artificially low so he can make out like a bandit. Whereas guys like Calacanis actually create value and partnerships with bloggers. And Henry at Blogads? Want to talk about empowering? Meckler's full of it.

Old line media simply has to get into the game. They can't survive otherwise. Blogs are rapidly eroding old-line media's margins and the only way they can survive online is to graft or merge bloggers and blogging communities into their media organizations.

Update: This is kinda related. "Word to the wise," indeed.

I had a *.com domain for our business and we moved. The e-mail saying it needed to be renewed was sent to my previous e-mail address. No idea why? But a company picked it up and there was no way I was going to pay them big bucks just to get it back. We got around it by taking out a new domain *.ca It's much less money and that has worked out very well. So those thieves did us a favour by reducing our costs. We had the last laugh!

That reminds me, I must renew the one I have now or I'd have to do it all over again with yet another domain name. Thanks for the reminder.

I now use the Internet as a major source of news and blogs like Agonist where the commentary is informed and members are capable of discussing topics with civility. There are thousands that aren't factual or polite. Thank you Sean-Paul for all the work you put into it. It's a pleasure to be one of the members.

this site and the community here is a reflection of the entire editorial team. Candy, Doug, Quiet Bill, Ian, Stirling, Rick and Graham and Worldwise are all about ideas and intellectual integrity. And that is what makes this site special. We all disagree frequently, but we are all honest, cop to our errors and maintain our intellectual independence.

Thank you for being a part of it.

True, but bear in mind there are upwards of 8 million active blogs and about 30 million total - that last number according to Technorati, who may have fixed up their spam checking, but still count dead sites.
