Bad News For Net Neutrality Today

CNet writes:

In a modest victory for broadband providers, a highly anticipated bill in the U.S. Congress does not include specific rules saying that some Internet sites must not be favored over others.

I know this is the fiftieth time I've posted on this but net-neutrality is a big freaking deal and it effects us as much, if not more than HR 1606. We all need to educate ourselves on it and follow it and lobby on it, especially with Google slanting rightward. Major bloggers are letting this one slip by. And this is an issue that binds the Left and the Right!

We've put up some background articles here. Educate yourselves. Contact your representatives.

I'm imploring you. We're going to get hosed if the broadband providers are allowed to charge tolls and create a two lane internet.

Update: From an friends email, this is the kind of garbage we're up against.

Update 2: Sanford has more.

This is a MAJOR issue. The Mighty Wurlitzer wants to shut down the pipes of our communications. This is the first time in human history that mass publication is in the hands of the masses.

This issue of Net Neutrality and Voting machines are such huge hinge issues that will make or break what little freedoms we have left.

If there is a danger, it will be to keep folks like Sean Paul from creating a digital media enterprise with video and/or sound from the new emerging standards coming out of VOIP. In other words, a blog becomes a sort of cable TV news station. They are going to limit the ability of things like this from popping up all over the internet.

Obviously they want to stop people like me from setting up my own long distance company too!
