33%

The president of the United States has, with almost 3 years left in his final term, a 33% approval rating. Regardless of what you think about this president, this is cause for concern. When it comes to international affairs (which of course we all know, most Americans care so much about) we're in dangerous territory. Our army is locked up in Iraq, our good-will is gone and we've outsourced the heavy lifting to others (China in N-E Asia, EU in Iran).

Bush, barring some unforseen change, has literally been castrated internationally. Our enemies can do anything they want and there really isn't a whole lot we can do about it because a.) most of our army is tied up in Iraq and b.) the American public, even if we had to do something, wouldn't stand for it.

That's what happens when you squander global good-will for a preventive war that you bungle.

Let’s hope that being backed into the low approval ratings corner does not instigate/initiate/ignore a terrorist action on U.S. soil. BushCo is very dangerous in this situation, with self granted Imperial Powers that Congress gave away through inaction
, an attack can be ordered any time any place on any county or group of people.

The situation in South America and the Caribbean must be worrisome for BushCo. Neil Bush is very active with the banks in South America. With Venezuela threatening to sell the excess oil to other countries besides the U.S, has to be sounding deep claxon alarms deep in the bowels of the White House. Beyond the oil issue, there are all these new economic alliances springing up between South American countries. Brazil has big manufacturing capabilities, coupled with an ethanol economy, mix in some serious cash from Venezuela and some very strong economic alternatives start the lessoning of North American dependence.

I'm not so sure our enemies can do anything they want. Given this man's attitude and past performance, I have little doubt he would pull the trigger on anyone or anything he deemed offensive.

From the same pole, nice to have an imcompetent with his hands of the triger..

"Bush's personal image also has weakened noticeably, which is reflected in people's one-word descriptions of the president. Honesty had been the single trait most closely associated with Bush, but in the current survey "incompetent" is the descriptor used most frequently"

Is why there isn't anyone banging that drum, and tying the albatross to the Republicans' collective necks.
(Although I suppose that that really belongs on dailykos or in an e-mail to Howard Dean.)

Because the US is now so backed into a corner in Iraq, the army is 'busy', I am afraid the US will drop "the bomb" to keep everyone in their place.

Something happening as early as next week, when Iran opens its Oil Bourse trading in Euro, the Fed stops reporting on the M3 money supply, and the US hits its debt ceiling.

Bush, although with only 33%, can still do what ever he likes, or his administration can. We see this daily. 33% approval rating does not change the balance of power in Congress or the Senate, yes they may grumble, but they know Rove controls the purse strings and an election is coming up. They probably believe they can get re-elected by spending lots of money, that they can overcome the "albatros" that Bush is.

Maybe Bush will do something that even the Republicans can't defend, will make them start to realise that this man is out of his league and out of control.

Who knows. Time will tell. But for now, I don't see Bush or his policies getting any weeker, even with only 33%

I always wonder, what exactly constitutes "disapproval" in these polls?

"I'm afraid of the terrorists and I don't like wars, but I know it's a lonely, hard job being the Leader Of The Free World. God Bless You, Mister President!"

"Well, he's a fuck-up, but at least he's a Republican fuck-up."

"He shoulda just nuked what's-his-name who helped Saddam blow up the Twin Towers on NinEleven, and then gone ahead and nuked I-raq. We'd be safer if all them ragheads was dead. Hell, Dick Cheney, now there's a fuckin' president!"
