Pissing on Orchids

I just went outside to piss (it saves water), but I picked a different spot because my wife complained about the smell (she likes to sit close by that spot in the garden). My new spot just happened to be by one of my orchids; so I made sure I didn’t piss on it, because it would have killed it.
That lead to a thought/question; why (always a very bad question); better to ask; what is the reason, we piss on orchids? We all piss on orchids; every day of every week of every year, we piss on them.
Oh? You didn’t know that? Sure you did, you just weren’t paying attention. I piss on them all the time; but this time it was right there and I actually saw it! So I didn’t piss on it!
We’re a curious species; all divided and contentious, aggressive, defensive, and really quite stupid. Oh sure, the Hadron Collider; we’re zeroing in on the Higg’s Boson; holy shit; the secrets of the universe and the mysteriousness of our pathetic existence. Too bad we won’t survive to appreciate it’s significance.
But back to orchids; if we see them, then, we usually don’t piss on them. It seems we universally agree they are beautiful and rare. I’m blessed with many times many and they are indeed rare and beautiful. But isn’t everything on this planet, our space ship, rare and beautiful? And I do mean everything! We’re the richest and most ignorant species extant in the known universe: If this weren’t true then what is the reason we continue the path to utter destruction?
My only explanation is; we don’t see it, so we piss on it. Ignorance is easily cured through education; but we don’t even understand that simple truth. So we’ll continue to piss on the things we don’t see or understand. Seeing is everything………

  • I’ll give you the intro is different, if perhaps TMI, but the overall message is as unoriginal as sabot shoes and Luddites. I’d have to agree with Robert Heinlein here and contend that “if you don’t like other people, you can’t like yourself”. A better take, if just as unoriginal, is that humanity is where the ape rising towards transcendence meets the angel descending into the mire. We are complex, we are multitudinous and we can be by degrees both wonderful and awful in all our ways and works.

  • depicts the poet watching a drunk stagger down the road.
The poet recognizes the drunk as having descended from a long line of Irish kings and laments that “one so high could sink so low”.
Then he sees the drunk stoop to pluck and become enraptured by a flower, and celebrates that “one so low could rise so high”.

And if we’re not 100% aware of everything, all the time? We abuse the world and each other through ignorance or inattention? You expected God, maybe?
Perhaps your (our?) curse is self-awareness.
I always thought the story of Adam and Eve was interesting this regard. The forbidden Tree of Knowledge did not grant wisdom – it granted awareness.
The story is an attempt to explain the downside of consciousness.
We’re probably the only species that gets a guilt complex. To say we deserve that guilt implies expectations that might not be realistic, given that we are not quite as ‘special’ as we like to think we are.

It is worth remembering that the Founding Fathers were all traitors.

  • ..and this is original?;
“we are multitudinous and we can be by degrees both wonderful and awful in all our ways and works.”
Give me a break, please. TMI? WTF does that mean; I speak English. Not twitter/facebook talk. Over…
Oh, and by the way; this was written before your “challenge”; probably at the same time.

Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows,or with both~FDouglas

  • ..of our own destruction. God? Who’s/what is that? I don’t know god/s; I know our species.
