Whole Foods and the Pox of the Hippie Businessman

Whole Foods CEO John Mackey has once again revealed his true right-wing ways. He's a long-time union buster and wannabe monopolist who's gotten in trouble in the past for his internet antics.
This time he took to the op-ed pages of the Wall Street Journal to bash health care reform. Really stupid move since his customer base is overwhelmingly progressive. The boycott is on and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Talking Points Memo documents the atrocities:

Mackey began his piece with a quote from Margaret Thatcher--"The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money"--and went on to warn that "a massive new health-care entitlement that will create hundreds of billions of dollars of new unfunded deficits and move us much closer to a government takeover of our health-care system."

As a result of this misguided effort, it seems, his company's website has been fielding angry comments all afternoon, and has had to set up an online forum where customers can vent their frustrations, and, oh, call for a boycott!

That's precisely the same problem with capitalism. Just ask Wall Street.

Reminds me of the comic in East Berlin during the Cold War that was jailed for this joke: "I'm here to explain the difference between communism and capitalism; in capitalism, man oppresses man, whereas in communism it's completely the opposite."

This jackass Mackey has been doing his utmost to live up to the moniker.

I always feel like growing Dreadlocks when I'm in one of those stores. Why, I feel so organic that I want to walk right down the supplements isle and snort some witch hazel and don't I feel like I've done the world some green good and my body too. What with pop'n a few organic grapes shipped all the way from Chile or sipping Whole Foods own label bottled organic style city tap water, I'm go'n green baby; I've done my part to save the world by shopping at Whole Foods. Now I'll just set this half a bag of groceries that I paid $150 for in the back of my SUV and stop at the gas station on the way home.

to bag groceries. At least, in Boston. But for some reason, they are all different people!
