My First Play

a satirical farce called:

How They Went Down

Scene:  Among others in a room gathered around a conference table are President George Wee Bush, VP Little Dickey Cheney, Condi Baby Rice, Collin Powell, Donald Rumsfeld and John Ashcroft.  Richard Clarke is not there.  The Wee One has a horrified look on his face as he reads from a piece of paper…, the CIA’s “President’s Briefing Report” of August 6, 2001.  He had received it when he was on vacation at his place in Texas on that date.  He stayed on vacation for 23 more days.  He is finally back on the job around 9/4/01.

Wee One:  Oh My Gosh…, OH MY GOSH !!!!  “Bin Ladin determined to strike in US.”  OH – MY – GOSH.  Little Dickey…, Little Dickey what are we gonna do?  Oh my…, oh my.  We better pray…, I’ll lead a prayer.  (He backs away from the table and kneels down, bowing his head and lowering his folded hands to his lap).  Oh heavenly Father…, lend us your ear…, and please save us from the evil ones who would do us harm.
Little Dickie:  (Moving to a position facing the kneeling Wee One)  What the hell are you praying for Wee One?  You should be praying for them to bring it on!  (The Wee One raises his head and his hands [in prayer?]…, Little Dickey takes a quick step back as he slaps the Wee One’s hands away)  Not now!  Get up from there you idiot.  This is exactly what we want, an attack by foreign forces on the homeland.  What better excuse to get a good war started and get the economy going?
Wee One:  But somebody could get hurt Little Dickey…, maybe even killed.

Little Dickey:  Oh for crying out loud you dummy.  What’s bid Laden going to do…, steal a couple of Cessna planes, put a five gallon can of gas in the back seat and fly them into some IRS buildings or something?  If they try to attack the White House I will be up on the roof with my shotgun and blow the bastards out of the sky.  And if I am drunk and blow someone’s face half off instead…, well…, how much damage do you really think they could do?  I’ll tell you how much…, not much more than I can do with a shotgun…, that’s for sure.  I just hope it’s enough to sell a damn war.  The boys over at Halliburton are getting restless sitting around waiting.  They are ready to move NOW.., and they don’t need to bid on no damn contract.  They are ready to support the troops right now.  And speaking of supporting the troops…, we will inundate the social media sites with “Support the Troops” messages…, and radio and TV ads that will drum up a war footing that will last for years.  Yeah…, anybody who doesn’t “support the troops” is supporting the damn terrorists.
Wee One: Oh Little Dickey…, oh Little Dickey!  You are so right.  We have to get this economy going right away.  When Poppy started his war, he waited too long and the money spent didn’t have time work its way through the chain and he lost the reelection…, and Clinton raped the benefit of it and got undeserved credit for turning the economy around.  And your plan to get people to support the war is brilliant.
Little Dickey:  Support the troops you dolt…, the TROOPS!
Collin Powell:  You should keep in mind sir…, that the Saudi’s funded your father’s war.  It didn’t cost us a dime…, but our military industrial complex reaped all the profits.  We would have to pay for your war…, it could double the debt.
Little Dickey:  Shut up Collin!  Debts and deficits don’t matter.  Saint Ronnie proved that.  He tripled the debt and people still worship him.  And the Iraqi’s will hail us and greet us as liberators…, probably pay us back with their oil money.
Collin Powell:   Iraq?  What’s Iraq got to do with bin Laden?
Little Dickey:  Collin!  I told you to shut the fuck up!  Where’s my shotgun?
Wee One: Easy now Little Dickey.  You are right again…, support the troops.  Oh I am so excited…, I want to lead a cheer!
Condi Baby: Yes! YES! Yeah! YEAH!
Little Dickey backs off as Condi Baby positions herself front and center of the Wee One…, doing legs kicks that would make the Rockettes swoon…, and the Wee One…, with eyes wide open…, is cutting some moves right out of the old college play book himself.
Wee One: Rah Rah Rah
         Little Dickey!
         Rah Rah Rah
        Bring ‘em on!
        Rah Rah Rah
        Support the wa-…, troops!
        Rah Rah Rah
         Support the troops!
         Whoo- Hooo  Yea
Wee One: Ok then.  Little Dickey…, you can be excused for not showing the proper enthusiasm…, because of your heart condition.  But Collin…, are you alright?  You are looking a little pale there.
Powell: Just a bit of an upset stomach sir.  May I have that memo?
Wee One: Here you go Collin.  Condi Baby…, you were magnificent as always.  Let me give you a hug.  (As the Wee One gives her the hug, he whispers in her ear)  Condi Baby…, when did you start the forgoing of the underwear?
Condi Baby: (whispers back)  When I read the memo I just got so hot that they just melted off me sir.
Wee One:  (stepping back)  OK team…, we have a lot of work to do.  This bin Laden character is small potatoes…, we need to gin up a war with Saddam Hussein in Iraq somehow.  I want you all to get started on it…, but Condi and I have some details to discuss in my office…, and I don’t want to be disturbed for about an hour.
Condi Baby: (snort, cough, giggle)
Wee One:  What’s that Condi Baby?
Condi Baby:     Nothing sir…, just a little tickle in my throat. It won’t last that long sir.
Wee One: (As Condi and the Wee One exit the room, the Wee One catches a Secret Service agent by the arm, and checking to make sure Little Dickey is out of earshot, says)  Whatever you do…, DO NOT let Little Dickey anywhere near me with a shotgun in his hand!

Back here in the theater of the real…, I never bought into the “Bush planned the whole thing and blew up the WTC buildings.”  I still waver a bit over whether they “let it happen” or were just completely incompetent fools.  They were certainly warned about the possibility of attacks…, but didn’t get the memo that they seemed to be waiting for.  The one that would give a specific date and time and plan of action that they could counter.  Most days…, if I am not wavering about from too many beers…, I think that they believed that memo would come and that they would easily thwart the attacks.  Once the wavering is well underway…, I tend to think they had a “let ‘em come” attitude…, that it wouldn’t  amount to much and they would have the excuse they needed to go to war.  No matter how many beers I have had…, I do not for a minute believe that they would knowingly and intentionally let something as incredibly horrendous as 9-11 turned out happen…, let alone plan and carry out such an attack.  As low, despicable, inept and evil as I find that bunch…, I don’t think even they are that utterly depraved.

One of the most convincing things arguing against prior knowledge of the attacks for me is The Wee One’s performance at the school where he was reading a book to the class.  As he is told that the US is “under attack”…, he sits there stunned for nearly seven minutes.  When I watch the video now…, I still expect him to break out in tears and scream, “Mommy, Mommy”…, or maybe, “Little Dickey, Little Dickey”.  He looks like the little lost boy with a large degree of cognitive issues.  If he and his handlers had known what was going on…, because they had planned it all out…, they would know that he was in no danger and he would have dashed off to save America and the world.  He would have taken charge and issued orders to fly back to Washington to man the barricades alongside his fellow Americans to keep the evil ones at bay and protect the homeland.

Back to the Broadway theater for a moment…, the press conference would have gone something like this:

Wee One:  The Secret Service and the Joint Chiefs of Staff were insisting that I take refuge in some bunker away from Washington for my own safety.  I wasn’t having any of it.  As Commander in Chief, I ordered that I be flown to the front lines of the battle here in Washington.  When my people are in danger my place is with them, leading them to victory over the forces that would do them harm.  I contacted the Air Force, Navy, Marines, Army and Coast Guard trying to secure an F-16 to go up and do battle myself…, I am a warrior…, that’s why I joined the National Guard during the Vietnam War…, but they all told me that all serviceable aircraft were already in air.  So I slipped away from the Secret Service guys, got my chain saw, jumped on my bicycle and went after the terrorists.  I am telling you, heads would have rolled and blood would have flowed…, if I hadn’t wrecked my bike.  Darn near broke my arm too.  And the SS caught up with me and drug me back here.  That may seem a little extreme to you…, but I sure as heck wasn’t going up on the roof of the White House with drunken Little Dickey Cheney up there blackening the sky with buckshot.  What the heck is he shooting at anyway?  By the way…, why doesn’t someone go up there and bring him down now?    Yeah…, well…, I wouldn’t show my face up there either.

But what I need from the American people…, no…, I don’t want you to grab your chain saw and jump on your bike and go out and behead some terrorists.  I need you to get out there and go shopping.  We need to get this economy going.

Theater of the real again…, aside from that…, there is just voluminous evidence that bin Laden and al Qaeda did it.  Bill Moyer’s produced a show called “For the Record”…, some selected quotes below (my bold) and the full transcript at the link:

Bill Moyer’s Journal

September 14, 2007

BILL MOYERS: Welcome to the JOURNAL. Earlier this week we paused to remember where we were on the morning of September 11th 2001. All of us know how our country’s changed in these past six years. Thousands of Americans have died in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the mastermind of the sneak attacks, Osama Bin Laden, remains on the loose. Our military is stretched to the limit, and a vast new bureaucracy has grown up in the name of homeland security.

Even as the power of the presidency has grown expansively in response to the terror, polls show the public holds both the executive branch and congress in lower esteem than ever. Sometimes it seems the only thing we have in common anymore is fear. Because 9/11 was such a searing and defining moment of change, in this broadcast we’re going to take a second look at a documentary we produced on the third anniversary of the attacks. It was just after the official Bi-partisan 9/11 Commission had issued this gripping study of what had gone wrong in the period leading up to that infamous day. The commission concluded the terrorists had ‘exploited deep institutional failings within our government.’

We’ve now learned even more details about that bureaucratic bungling. Just three and a half weeks ago the inspector general of the CIA released a summary of an internal secret report that comes down hard on the agency and its officers for not discharging their responsibilities ‘in a satisfactory manner.’ for example, the report says that 50 to 60 officials had intelligence that two of the hijackers may have been in the country, but no one thought to notify the FBI. Here, now, is our documentary that aired on the third anniversary of the attacks. 9/11-For the Record.

RICE: I don’t think anybody could have predicted that these people would take an airplane and slam it into the World Trade Center, take another one and slam it into the Pentagon; that they would try to use an airplane as a missile, a hijacked airplane as a missile.
MOYERS: But Condoleezza Rice is wrong.
Had she looked, Dr. Rice might have found in the files of the intelligence community what the 9/11 Commission would uncover. The attack she deemed unimaginable had, in fact, been imagined. Repeatedly.
Twelve times in the seven years before 9/11, the CIA reported that hijackers might use airplanes as weapons.
The most specific of those warnings involve this man: Khalid Sheikh Mohammed — or as the spies now call him, KSM.
After evading capture for years, KSM was arrested last year in a middle of the night raid. This is how he looked when he was handed over to the CIA. In custody, KSM has talked. The results of his top secret interrogation, shared with commission investigators, provide a chilling map of the road to 9/11, as well as a surprise. KSM not only imagined the unimaginable, he engineered it.
ZELIKOW: In early 1999, bin Laden summoned KSM to Kandahar to tell him that his proposal to use aircraft as weapons now had al Qaeda’s full support.
MOYERS: In terrorist circles, it is even called the “planes operation.”

MOYERS: December 4th, 1998. President Clinton gets a stunning piece of news. In his daily briefing — what’s called a PDB — the CIA tells him that bin Laden and his cohorts are preparing to attack inside the United States, quote, “perhaps including an aircraft hijacking.”

MOYERS: The vigilance brings results. In Port Angeles, Washington, a U.S. customs agent orders a “nervous and strange-acting” man coming off a ferry from Canada to open his car’s trunk. Ahmed Ressam, an Algerian, is traveling with enough explosives to level a one-square-block building.
In prison, Ressam reveals his target: Los Angeles International Airport.

MOYERS: Although the attack bears al Qaeda’s signature, the CIA and FBI refuse to formally declare bin Laden the culprit. The U.S. does not hit back.
Al Qaeda’s “planes operation” is now deepening its roots on American soil.
On May 29th, Marwan al-Shehhi had arrived in Newark, armed with a multiple-entry tourist visa.
Five days later, Mohamed Atta followed him, coming as a tourist from Prague. He was granted the customary six-month stay.
At the end of June, Ziad Jarrah also landed in Newark. He violates his tourist visa almost immediately when he enrolls in flight school.
On December 8th, Hani Hanjour lands in Cincinnati. He’s been granted a student visa because he wants to study flying.
All four had trained in al Qaeda’s camps in Afghanistan. All four will earn flying certificates from the Federal Aviation Administration. All four will pilot hijacked planes on 9/11.
January 20th, 2001. The job of defending the home front passes from Bill Clinton to George W. Bush.
By law, the new President now heads the National Security Council. He appoints Condoleezza Rice, one of his closest confidantes, as his National Security Adviser.
Five days after the inauguration, Rice receives a memo written by this man: Richard Clarke. Clarke, who managed counterterrorism policy on Clinton’s National Security Council, its lead expert on al Qaeda, is kept on the job by Bush and Rice.
In the memo, Clarke declares an “urgent need” that the “Principals,” the heads of the CIA, FBI, State and Defense Departments, meet to be briefed on the al Qaeda threat.
That meeting does not happen. As the 9/11 Commission investigates why, the actions of President Bush and his national security team will come under scrutiny.
LEHMAN: Were you told before the summer that there were functioning al Qaeda cells in the United States?
RICE: In the memorandum that Dick Clarke sent me on January 25th, he mentions sleeper cells. There is no mention or recommendation of anything that needs to be done about them.
MOYERS: But that was misleading. In the January 25th memo, Clarke had also attached a plan of action to “roll back” bin Laden.
RICE: We were not presented with a plan.
KERREY: Well, that’s not true. It is not…
RICE: We were not presented, we were not presented… we were presented with the…
KERREY: I’ve heard you say that, Dr. Clarke. If that 25 January 2001 memo was declassified, I don’t believe….
RICE: The fact is that what we were presented on January the 25th was a set of ideas…
RICE: …and a paper, most of which was about what the Clinton administration had done.
MOYERS: To this day, the White House has refused to declassify Clarke’s memo. Rice had effectively demoted him, downgraded his office, and informed him he was no longer needed at the meetings of the principals.

MOYERS: KSM has instructed them to acquire new, “clean” passports — that won’t show their travels to Afghanistan — before applying for U.S. visas.
The nineteen hijackers will clear U.S. customs a total of 33 times. At least six will violate immigration laws while living in the United States. And Mohamed Atta — who commanded the operation — is allowed to re-enter the country even though he’d overstayed his previous visa.
SNELL: In addition to assisting the newly arrived muscle hijackers, the pilots busied themselves during the summer of 2001 with cross-country surveillance flights and additional flight training.
MOYERS: Unknown to the CIA or the FBI, the al Qaeda pilots crisscross the country, scouting weaknesses in airport security, as well as the best time to storm a cockpit. And they have “no problems,” Atta reports to bin Laden and KSM, bringing box cutters on board.
SNELL: Each flew first class, in the same type of aircraft he would pilot on September 11th.
MOYERS: The intelligence “chatter” grows louder and more ominous.
On June 25th, Clarke warns Rice that, quote: “Six separate intelligence reports showed al Qaeda personnel warning of a pending attack.”
Three days later, he warns her that the pattern of al Qaeda activity indicating planning for an attack, quote, “had reached a crescendo.”
In early July, the CIA urgently warns the White House of, quote, “spectacular terrorist attacks” that will result in, quote, “numerous casualties.”
“The system was blinking red,” CIA director George Tenet testifies. Nearly forty times before 9/11, he briefs the President on the rising threat — a pending attack — by bin Laden. And Condoleezza Rice has known since January that al Qaeda sleeper cells are in the United States.

MOYERS: The Commission will learn that this “historical information” is, in fact, a pattern of activity leading to 9/11.
BEN-VENISTE: Isn’t it a fact, Dr. Rice, that the August 6th PDB warned against possible attacks in this country? And I ask you whether you recall the title of that PDB.
RICE: I believe the title was “Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States.” Now, the PDB…

MOYERS: Two days after Rice’s testimony and after the Commission’s most heated showdown with the Bush Administration over access to classified information — the PDB, heavily blacked out — is released on the Saturday night before Easter.
The President had been informed that, quote: “Bin Laden told followers he wanted to retaliate in Washington.”
The President had been informed that FBI information, quote, “indicates patterns of suspicious activity in this country consistent with preparations for hijackings or other types of attacks, including recent surveillance of federal buildings in New York.”
And the President had been informed of reports that a group of bin Laden supporters are, quote, “in the U.S. planning attacks.”
But the President stays at his Texas ranch for 23 more days. His National Security Adviser does not convene a Cabinet-level meeting to discuss the urgent warnings.

MOYERS: Not until late August does the CIA finally add the names of the two hijackers they’d lost — Hazmi and Mihdhar — to a terrorist watch list. The FBI still does not order an urgent nationwide search.
Not until September 4th — after almost eight months in office — does Rice finally chair a meeting of the men in charge of the CIA, FBI, State and Defense Departments to discuss al Qaeda. She does not invite Richard Clarke.
The Principals meet in the White House Situation Room but take no urgent action.
Seven days later. The “planes operation” — the plan for mass murder that began with KSM’s proposal five years earlier — is set.
Nineteen volunteers for the suicide mission begin the check in for their flights.
Each of them will pass through airport security.
7:18 that morning. At Dulles International Airport outside Washington, Khalid al Mihdhar sets off the first metal detector but not the second. He is waved on.
Twenty minutes later, Nawaf al Hazmi sets off both alarms. He is checked by hand and then cleared to board American 77 — along with three other hijackers — and 59 passengers and crew.
GRAPHIC: “The public was not warned.” — Final Report of the 9/11 Commission

I have never had a doubt that bin Laden and al Qaeda planned and executed the plot.  And I had no trouble believing that the twin towers came down as a result of the damage inflicted by the planes and resulting fires.  I had heard the “implosion” theory, but had never seen one initiated like that.  The ones I had seen on TV were blown from the bottom.  And I knew a little about the behavior of a steel beam in a fire…, because I had once planned on building a timber frame house.  It was quite eye opening as I was doing research to find the fact that a wood beam would hold its strength nearly twice as long as a steel beam in a fire.  A lot of people seem to think that steel is indestructible…, and it nearly is…, unless exposed to heat.  It is easily malleable and loses it strength under not all that hot a temperature.  So it made perfect sense to me that when the critical point was reached at the points of impact and all that weight from the floors above came crashing down…, there was just no stopping the chain reaction.  And the fact that the tower that was struck second and burned for less time collapsed first…, was the result of the tower being struck at a lower floor level…, had a far greater weight bearing down on the weakening steel below and thus collapsed first.  It all made sense to me…, and I don’t watch much TV.., so I was not aware of some of the controversies over the events of the day.  I thought I knew the story.

Wood Is Safer in a Fire
Wood Is Safer in a Fire
While it sounds hard to believe, it’s absolutely true. Wood retains its structural strength at temperatures higher than 2000°F, while steel loses 80 percent of its strength at 1000°F. As it’s melting during a fire, steel bends and twists. According to many firefighters, it is extremely difficult and dangerous for them to stop a fire in a steel building and for people to escape. Firefighters often use the term running time, which is the amount of time they have to get everyone out of the building before the steel is too dangerous to work on.
Large Timbers in Fire
When exposed to fire, wood retains its strength for a longer period of time than metal. Unprotected metals
quickly lose their strength and collapse suddenly, often with little warning. In contrast, wood loses strength slowly and only as material is lost through surface charring. Average building-fire temperatures range from 1290º to 1650º Fahrenheit. Steel weakens dramatically as its temperature climbs above 450ºF, retaining only 10% of its strength at about 1380ºF.
As a rule, wood will not ignite until it reaches a temperature of around 480ºF. Once it catches fire, wood typically develops char at the rate of 1 ⁄ 40th inch per minute under an ASTM E-119 fire exposure. The char naturally insulates the wood and raises the temperature level it can withstand. Thus, in a 30-minute fire, only 3⁄4 of an inch of each exposed surface of the glulam is lost to charring, leaving most of the original cross section intact.

Then a few years back I was visiting my brother back in Idaho and he insisted on showing me the In Plane Sight and Loose Change videos.  One was big on this being a false flag event and planned and executed by our government.  Other than that they both, had about that same narrative and “evidence” to show.  They contended that the twin towers had to be brought down by planted explosives.  The films didn’t convince me of that.  But the presentation of the Pentagon and Flight 77 caught my attention.  They claimed that there were no plane parts found, that there were no bodies found, that nobody saw a plane hit, that some people saw a missile hit and the pictures they presented showed only a small hole in the Pentagon.  Then there was Building 7 and the video they showed of it looked like other implosions I had seen on TV, and from the front the building look almost like new, and they claimed that there was little or no damage or fires…, and it certainly had not been struck by any planes.  I thought maybe I should take another look at this.  And I had a 12 hour drive back home to think it over.

I even had some theories developed by the time I got home…, maybe Flight 77 had actually been brought down by a missile and the government didn’t want to admit that…, or admit that another missile fired at it had missed and hit the Pentagon.  The theories lasted about as long as it took me to get on the computer back home in Forks,Washington.  It didn’t take any time at all to figure out that either the people who did the film were utter incompetents who failed to do any research in regard to their speculation…, or I had been out right lied to.

Scientific American,  Popular Mechanics, and The Skeptic’s Dictionary have published articles that rebut various 9/11 conspiracy theories.  The Popular Mechanics site laid it out in no uncertain detail.  At that time there was more information on the web…, Popular Mechanics has published a book entitled Debunking 9/11 Myths that expands upon the research first presented in the article.…, so the info found on the web at this time is a bit lacking.  They want you to buy the book. A quote:

Strip away the political content and logical leaps, and every conspiracy theory ultimately comes down to a small set of claims based on evidence that can be examined. These claims are the only points where the theorists’ elaborate conjectures make contact with the physical world. Without these foundations, the theories crumble. In every case we examined, the key claims made by conspiracy theorists turned out to be mistaken, misinterpreted, or deliberately falsified.

Yeah…, the video makers had done a slick job of presenting just one side of the story.  One has to wonder how many interviewees they had to reject before they found the one or two that supported their claims?  Then again, maybe it wasn’t that hard.  People will line up to eat live cockroaches to get on TV.  Put them in front of a camera and they would probably say anything you ask. “Yeah…, I heard explosions…, if it gets me on TV.”
I was pretty appalled at myself for letting them suck me in like that.  Well…, at least I can say that they didn’t suck any money out of me.  That seems to be the motive of part of the “truthers” out there, like radio and TV personality Alex Jones.    Some are surely true believers…, but it is hard to see how…, given the evidence that exists.  I guess true believers don’t need evidence…, they have their beliefs to cling to.  Richard Gage is the president of the Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth, a website that focuses on the collapse of the buildings and doesn’t appear to believe in the “no planes” aspect of the conspiracy theories that is so overwhelmingly pure imagination and fabrication.  I thought maybe their site would be a bit more objective and trustworthy.  They make the claim that over 2353 “architects and engineers” have signed a petition (as of 8/27/15) requesting a new investigation that must “…include a full inquiry into the possible use of explosives…”.  If you consider that there are 105,847 licensed architects in the US…, you might think that a whopping 2% had suspicions about the official explanation.  But if you take into account that there are 850,000 engineers in the US…, well…, it probably wouldn’t deter many truthers…, even if I did the math for them (OK…, it is .002%).  According to Wiki, Gage’s peers (other than the few that have signed his petition) don’t think much of his theories.

Conspiracy Theories

Rick Bell, the director of the American Institute of Architects New York chapter, who was a witness to the 9/11 attacks, said that “no amount of money” would persuade him to allow the group to talk at his headquarters and said that Gage lacks credibility among the professional community. Eugine Kohn, former spokesperson for the American Institute of Architects, said Gage’s theories were “ridiculous”, “There were no explosives planted”, and “The buildings were definitely brought down by the planes”. The decision to host the event was also criticized by the former president of the Royal Institute of British Architects and the founding president of the American Institute of Architects United Kingdom chapter. Gage has been warned by the AIA against giving a false impression that he has a relationship with them. A July article in the organization’s magazine criticized Gage for continuing to intimate that he has an association with them and claimed there were no architects at an Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth screening held in an American Institute of Architects boardroom [286]

Also from the Wiki site:

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) concluded the accepted version was more than sufficient to explain the collapse of the buildings. NIST and many scientists refuse to debate conspiracy theorists because they feel it would give those theories unwarranted credibility.[95] Specialists in structural mechanics and structural engineering accept the model of a fire-induced, gravity-driven collapse of the World Trade Center buildings without the use of explosives.[96][97][98] As a result, NIST said that it did not perform any test for the residue of explosive compounds of any kind in the debris.[44]
Soon after the day of the attacks, major media sources published that the towers had collapsed due to heat melting the steel.[99][100] Knowledge that the burning temperatures of jet fuel would not melt the steel support structure of the WTC contributed to the belief among skeptics that the towers would not have collapsed without external interference (something other than the planes). NIST does not claim that the steel was melted, but rather that the weakened steel, together with the damage caused by the planes’ impacts, caused the collapses.[44] NIST reported that a simulation model based on the assumption that combustible vapors burned immediately upon mixing with the incoming oxygen showed that “at any given location, the duration of [gas] temperatures near 1,000 °C was about 15 to 20 [minutes]. The rest of the time, the calculated temperatures were 500 °C or below.”[101]

I wasn’t following the site from its inception…, but it appears to me that the A&E site has evolved from an “it had to be implosion by explosives” because of the nature of the collapse to something else entirely.  When the conventional explosion theory was itself imploded due to a complete lack of evidence, they kept the “it just couldn’t happen that way” mindset.  They tried to say that tons of “melted steel” were found…, so thermite must have been used to melt the steel.  The tons of melted steel has failed to materialize…, and the thermite theory has melted itself.  Then it was “nanothermite” and its ability to “slice” through vertical steel beams to collapse the buildings.  (Wiki again) “Jesse Ventura hired New Mexico Tech to conduct a demonstration showing nanothermite slicing through a large steel beam, the nanothermite produced copious flame and smoke but no damage to the beam, even though it was in a horizontal, and therefore optimal position.”[94]

There is plenty of other de-bunkery concerning the thermite theory and it’s “evidence”.   Here’s a couple:

Millette: Progress Report on the Analysis of Red/Gray Chips in WTC Dust (1 March 2012)
The red/gray chips found in the WTC dust at four sites in the New York City are consisted with a carbon steel coated with an epoxy resin that contains primarily iron oxide and kaolin clay pigments.
There is no evidence of individual elemental aluminum particles of any size in the red/gray chips, therefore the red layer of the red/gray chips is not thermite or nanothermite.
Sulfur Sheres

Dr. Steven Jones says he found evidence of controlled demolition on Ground Zero in the form of Sulfur and Iron Spheres in the dust sample.
Sulfur is found in gypsum board
Iron Spheres come from flyash found in structural concrete, magnetic printer toner, torch-cutting of steel beams as part of the cleanup, aircraft impact, collapse,
The iron-rich content of all dust samples was between 0.1 and 1.3%. Not high enough to suggest it came from large amounts of melted steel.
Could have been there before collapse created during the construction of one of the many buildings in NY.
Iron Spheres could be created by oxidation or chemical reactions during moderate office fires.

The truthers have been scrambling around, grasping at straws…, and calling it evidence for many years now.  As Bill Moyers…, the most respected journalist we have in my estimation…, said back in 2011:

Facts Still Matter

Monday, 14 February 2011 04:18 By Bill Moyers, Truthout | Speech
Disinformation is not unique to the right, of course. Like other journalists, I have been the object of malevolent assaults from the “9/11 truthers” for not reporting their airtight case proving that the Bush administration conspired to bring about the attacks on the World Trade Center. How did they discover this conspiracy? As the independent journalist Robert Parry has written, “the truthers” threw out all the evidence of al-Qaeda’s involvement, from contemporaneous calls from hijack victims on the planes to confessions from al-Qaeda leaders both in and out of captivity that they had indeed done it. Then, recycling some of the right’s sophistry techniques, such as using long lists of supposed evidence to overcome the lack of any real evidence, the “truthers” cherry-picked a few supposed “anomalies” to build an “inside-job” story line. Fortunately, this Big Lie never took hold in the public mind. These truthers on the left, if that is where GPS can find them on the political map, are outgunned, outmatched and outshouted by the media apparatus on the right that pounds the public like drone missiles loaded with conspiracy theories and disinformation and accompanied by armadas of outright lies.
George Orwell had warned six decades ago that the corrosion of language goes hand in hand with the corruption of democracy. If he were around today, he would remind us that “like the rattling of a stick inside a swill bucket,” this kind of propaganda engenders a “protective stupidity” almost impossible for facts to penetrate.

Norm Chomsky is also a very well respected journalist who weighs in with this takedown of a truther on YouTube:

Christopher Hedges dismisses a reporter trying to convince him that we have been lied to about 9-11. And and the late Howard Zinn says, “It’ll go on and on and on and people will write books and talk about it; it’ll be an enormous waste of good energy… I just don’t think that it leads anywhere”…, made no friends within the truther movement either.  Journalist Matt Taibbi, in his book The Great Derangement, discusses 9/11 conspiracy theories as symptomatic of what he calls the “derangement” of American society; a disconnection from reality due to widespread “disgust with our political system”. Drawing a parallel with the Charismatic Movement, he argues that both “chose to battle bugbears that were completely idiotic, fanciful, and imaginary,” instead of taking control of their own lives.

I think the late Alexander Cockburn said it best in this CounterPunch piece:

The 9/11 Conspiracists: Vindicated After All These Years?

We’re homing in on the tenth anniversary of the destruction of the Wall Street Trade Towers  and the attack on the Pentagon.  One in seven Americans and one in four among those aged 16-24, (so a recent poll commissioned by the BBC tells us) believe that there was a vast conspiracy in which the U.S. government was involved.  But across those ten years have the charges that it was an “inside job” –– a favored phrase of the self-styled “truthers”  — received any serious buttress?

The answer is no.

Did the Trade Towers fall because they were badly built as a consequence of corruption, incompetence, regulatory evasions by the Port Authority, and because they were struck by huge planes loaded with jet fuel. No, shout the conspiracists, they “pancaked” because Dick Cheney’s agents–scores of them–methodically planted demolition charges in the preceding days inserting the explosives in the relevant floors of three vast buildings, (moving day after day among the unsuspecting office workers), then on 9/11 activating the detonators. It was a conspiracy of thousands, all of whom–party to mass murder–have held their tongues ever since.

What has been the goal of the 9/11 conspiracists? They ask questions, yes, but they never answer them. They never put forward an overall scenario of the alleged conspiracy. They say that’s not up to them. So who is it up to? Whom do they expect to answer their questions? When answers are put forward, they are dismissed as fabrications or they simply rebound with another question.  Like most cultic persuasions they excitedly invoke important converts to their faith and the “1500 architects and engineers in the USA” who say the NIST official report is not thorough and needs another investigation. It’s a tiny proportion of the overall members of their profession. At least 80 per cent of faculty economists in the US believe stoutly in long-discredited theories that have blighted the lives of millions around the world for decades. Their numbers don’t equate with intelligence, let along conclusive analysis.

The 9/11 conspiracists seize on coincidences and force them into sequences they deem to be logical and significant. Their treatment of eyewitness testimony and forensic evidence is whimsical. Apparent anomalies that seem to nourish their theories are brandished excitedly; testimony that undermines their theories–like witnesses of a large plane hitting the Pentagon — is dismissed.
Many conspiracists say it wasn’t a plane but a missile. (Other conspiracists denounce the “no plane” Pentagon as wacko.) Eye-witnesses of a large plane hitting the Pentagon — are contemptuously brushed aside.

There are some photos of the impact of the “object” — i.e. the Boeing 757, flight 77 — that seem to show the sort of hole a missile might make. Ergo, 757 didn’t hit the Pentagon. It WAS a missile. It wasn’t smoke in some photographs obscuring a larger rupture in the fortified Pentagon wall.

On this last matter, Chuck Spinney, now retired after years of brilliant government service exposing the Pentagon’s budgetary outrages, tells me that “there ARE pictures taken of the 757 plane hitting Pentagon — they were taken by the surveillance cameras at Pentagon’s heliport, which was right next to impact point. I have seen them both — stills and moving pictures. I just missed seeing it personally, but the driver of the van I just got out of in South Parking saw it so closely that he could see the terrified faces of passengers in windows. I knew two people who were on the plane. One was ID’d by dental remains found in the Pentagon.”

In fact hundreds of people saw the plane — people who know the difference between a plane and a cruise missile. The wreckage of the plane was hauled out from the site. Why does the obvious have to be proved? Would those who were wounded or who lost friends and colleagues that day assist in the cover up of a missile strike? Why risk using a missile, when you had a plane in the air and - to take one bizarre construct of the conspiracists — had successfully crashed (by remote control!) two into much more difficult targets–the Trade Towers?

This doesn’t faze the conspiracists. They’re immune to any reality check. Spinney “worked for the government.” They switched the dental records. The Boeing 757 was flown to Nebraska for a rendezvous with President Bush, who shot the passengers, burned the bodies on the tarmac and gave Spinney’s friend’s teeth to Dick Cheney to drop through a hole in his trousers amid the debris in the Pentagon.

There is not the slightest need to postulate pre-placed explosive charges to explain why the towers collapsed at near free fall speeds. As Pierre Sprey, a former plane and weapons designer who knows a great deal about explosions, told me…

Herman Soifer, a retired structural engineer, summarized the collapse of Buildings 1 and 2 succinctly, in a letter to me, remarking that since he had followed the plans and engineering of the Towers during construction he was able to explain the collapses to his wife a few hours after the buildings went down.

High grade steel can bend disastrously under extreme heat. The types of steel used in the WTC Towers (plain carbon, and vanadium) lose half their strength when heated to about 570 C , and even more as temperatures rise, as they did in WTC 1 and 2, to 1100 C.

As discussed in Wayne Barrett and Dan Collin’s excellent book Grand Illusion, about Rudy Giuliani and 9/11, helicopter pilots radioed warnings nine minutes before the final collapse that the South Tower might well go down and, repeatedly, as much as 25 minutes before the North Tower’s fall.
What Barrett and Collins brilliantly showed are the actual corrupt conspiracies on Giuliani’s watch: the favoritism to Motorola which saddled the firemen with radios that didn’t work; the ability of the Port Authority to skimp on fire protection, the mayor’s catastrophic failure in the years before 9/11/2001 to organize an effective unified emergency command that would have meant that cops and firemen could have communicated; that many firemen wouldn’t have unnecessarily entered the Towers; that people in the Towers wouldn’t have been told by 911 emergency operators to stay in place; and that firemen could have heard the helicopter warnings and the final Mayday messages that prompted most of the NYPD men to flee the Towers.

That’s the real political world, in which Giuliani and others have never been held accountable. The conspiracists disdained the real world because they wanted to promote Bush, Cheney and the Neo-Cons to an elevated status as the Arch Demons of American history, instead of being just one more team running the American empire, a team of more than usual stupidity and incompetence (characteristics I personally favor in imperial leaders). Actually, what Bush and Cheney never demonstrated was the slightest degree of competence to pull anything like this off. They couldn’t even manufacture weapons of mass destruction after US troops had invaded Iraq, and when any box labeled “WMD” would have been happily photographed by the embedded U.S. press as conclusive testimony. Arch-demon Cheney and his retinue of neo-cons couldn’t even contrive a provocation sufficient to justify his aim of waging war on Iran or giving Israel the green light to do so.  Each day he gnashed his teeth as Bush, Condoleezza Rice and the Joint Chiefs of Staff foiled his machinations.

I left out plenty of good stuff…, you really ought to read the complete piece at the link…, and if you need more detailed information about the collapse of the Twin Towers and Building 7…, you can get that from the report that Cockburn had commissioned for CounterPunch at these links:

The Physics of 9-11

The Thermodynamics of 9-11

Dark Fire

Well…, if you aren’t convinced by now that all the real evidence debunks the conspiracy theorists…, it probably just ain’t gonna happen. But since most plays have three acts…, I leave you with this.

Scene: The Wee One and Little Dickey are sitting in a bathtub facing each other. Little Dickey has his shotgun and empty bandoleros crossed over his chest. The Wee One is painting Little Dickey’s toe nails. There is a personal attendant named Benson standing nearby.

Wee One: Did you really need to bring your shotgun Little Dickey?

Little Dickey: That’s one right you’re not taking away from me. The constitution doesn’t say anything about the ammo though…, you are right about that. But do you really think a strip and body cavity search was necessary?

Wee One: Well…, did you really have THAT many shells up there?

Little Dickey: Oh…, I forgot about those. You have to stay prepared you know.

Wee One: Yeah, and that reminds me…, Benson, make sure you get off the donations to those truther sites and the Support the War…, I mean the TROOPS…, the troops! Can you believe it Little Dickey? Thousands of people were in the streets, burning military buildings and occupying campuses across this nation after just a few years of the Vietnam War. We have been in Iraq over 10 long years…, and Afghanistan even longer…, and everyone is still supporting the wa…., troops. Supporting the troops. This may never end.

Little Dickey: Why are you sending money to those conspiracy theorists…, they are trying to pin the blame on us for 9-11?

Wee One: Because those hound dogs are barking up an empty tree. As long as we can keep them occupied on a fantasy…, they won’t be asking questions like why we were asleep at the switch on 9-11, illegal wars of aggression and occupation, weapons of mass destruction, yellow cake uranium, aluminum tubes, anthrax, mushroom clouds on the horizon, slam dunk, Valerie Plame, letting bin Laden slip away at Tora Bora, total surveillance, the Patriot Act, Homeland Security, NSA, TSA, Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib, water-boarding, torture, extraordinary rendition, habeas corpus, black sites, drones, nearly 5000 dead US soldiers, hundreds of thousands of dead innocent civilians in the Middle East, Katrina, tax cuts worth millions for billionaires and pennies for the working class, a burst housing bubble and financial crisis the likes of which we haven’t seen since the 30’s.

Little Dickey: Maybe you aren’t as dumb as you look and act.

Wee One: Yeah Little Dickey…, ias long as they have one eye closed and the other eye firmly focused on a microscope, we don’t have much to worry about. Buy if they ever put the effort into investigating the real questions that they are putting into barking up that empty tree…, well that keister trick of yours might come in handy.

  • Will read and comment later – gotta run to a doctor’s appointment.
But one typo is so good I won’t correct it:

“… Clinton raped the benefit of it….”

    • That Was No Typo Steeleweed…,
just an example of the Wee One’s many miss pronunciations…, and when it rolled of my finger tips…, I rewarded those finger tips with yet another ice cold Hamm’s…, and a forbidden cigarette 🙂 Which reminds me that I need to weight in on your “addiction” piece myself. Right on partner…, write on. But be careful about editing 🙂

      • Whoops…,
there are a couple of typos in the last paragraph…, “ias” should be “as”…, and “Buy” should be “But”…., I was in danger of being late for the job 🙂
