"Seditious Conspiracy" - Rising Up in the Name of Christ

"Preparing for the end time battles to keep the testimony of Jesus Christ alive." Hutaree

On March 27, eight members of the Hutaree militia were arrested based a federal grand jury indictment for seditious conspiracy; attempt to use weapons of mass destruction; teaching/demonstrating the use of explosive materials; plus two counts of carrying a firearm as part of a crime of violence. The eight were arrested in small towns in Southeastern Michigan and adjacent areas of Ohio and Indiana. The trial will be in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, Southern Region, presided over by Judge Victoria A. Roberts.

According to their web site, Hutaree means soldier of Christ. In fact, the term is a neologism.

The religious warriors had a four part plan. They would draw the attention of federal law enforcement officials by killing one or several, including family members if they were available. When a major funeral was held for the slain police or federal officials, the Hutaree would attack the funeral procession with explosive devices killing as many police as they could. At that point, the soldiers of Christ would retreat to the woods and battle law enforcement. All of this would culminate in a national uprising against the government, which they believe to be the agent of the antichrist. USA versus David Brian Stone, et al (HUTAREE)

"The Hutaree will one day see its enemy and meet him on the battlefield
if so God wills it."

Eight indicted Hutaree ("Christian Soldiers")

The Hutaree have a grandiose notion of their role in relation to Christ and also their power to generate a revolution across the country. Their web site's "About Us" page states that, "We believe that one day, as prophecy says, there will be an Anti-Christ. All Christians must know this and prepare, just as Christ commanded." Accordingly,

"Jesus wanted us to be ready to defend ourselves using the sword and stay alive using equipment. The only thing on earth to save the testimony and those who follow it, are the members of the testimony, til the return of Christ in the clouds. We, the Hutaree, are prepared to defend all those who belong to Christ and save those who aren’t. We will still spread the word, and fight to keep it, up to the time of the great coming." Hutaree.Com

The Hutaree action plan is similar to that of murderer Charles Manson and his followers in the late 1960's. According to Manson, random killings of wealthy Southern Californians would spark a national race war. When the whites were defeated, somehow the Manson family would emerge and be honored by victorious blacks for initiating the revolt.

The thought is not the deed. But these thoughts extracted from the Book of Daniel formed the justification for the Hutaree project. From Daniel 11:32-35:

32. Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.
33 "And those of the people who understand shall instruct many; yet for many days they shall fall by sword and flame, by captivity and plundering.
34 "Now when they fall, they shall be aided with a little help; but many shall join them by intrigue.
35 "And some of those of understanding shall fall, to refine them, purify them, and make them white, until the time of the end; because it is still for the appointed time."

attempt to use weapons of mass destruction

Uh oh, that's not good...do you know any more about this? What was the nature of the weapons they were planning on using? Where were they acquiring materials for WMDs?

to refine them, purify them, and make them white

make them white?

And I notice, you never see exactly what it is they are shooting at in the video. Presumably some horrific 10-headed AntiChrist Monster or something...a college professor, maybe?

There is stoopid, and then there is dangerous and stoopid. This is the latter. I for one am glad they getting tracked down and prosecuted early on.

Hey man, that's my little sister in the pic;)

IED - Improvised Explosive Devices

EFT - Explosively Formed Projectiles

Their evidence for the arrival of the antichrist is "chipping" - inserting chips in the body of humans so we can be tracked as we try to roam freely about the homeland.

Somehow in response to their violence millions of people will turn violent themselves in support of the instigators.

I guess it is all part of the delusion.

I wonder which evangelical end times preacher they listen to.

The anti social behavior is justified by the messiah role and the grandiosity feeds the scope of their undertaking. They're not that different from Charles Manson. But if you think about it, the delusions are not that different from those of George W. Bush and his coterie.

are scary, scary places. And i'm not just casting aspersion here. The Detroit Free Press had pictures of the groups head quarters: a rattletrap trailer with a trash strewn yard.

Oh, and on behalf of the state of Michigan, my apologies for our nut jobs.

The wiser spiritual folks I've run into told me - Let your those you disapprove of be your teacher. That's a hard one to follow but, as you suggested, it is highly appropriate in this case.

by shooting them?

creativelcro March 31, 2010 - 10:51am

They're like those fathers who are at the end of their rope and shoot the whole family because what would life be without them. This is antisocial behavior in the extreme but there's also a serious mental illness perspective going on, which in no way excuses the behavior, not at all, but which should be studied.

Sedition: Crime of creating a revolt, disturbance, or violence against lawful civil authority with the intent to cause its overthrow or destruction -- Brittanica Concise Dictionary

Well, finally. It's high time somebody had the guts to say the S-word -- sedition -- right out loud.

When the indictments against the Hutaree were unsealed last week, the S-word was right there, front and center, in Count One. The Justice Department accused them of "seditious conspiracy," charging that the defendants "did knowingly conspire, confederate, and agree with each other and other persons known and unknown...to levy war against the United States, and to prevent, hinder, and delay by force the execution of any United States law."

This is very serious stuff. But the Hutaree are getting nailed for sedition only because they crossed the line with inches to spare. They're by no means the only ones. Advocating, encouraging, and sanctioning sedition is the new norm on the conservative side.

We saw it again last Thursday, when the Guardians of the Free Republics -- a Sovereign Citizen group that believes that the oath of office taken by state governors is invalid under their twisted Bizarroland interpretation of the Constitution -- sent letters to most or all sitting state governors telling them to either a) take what they consider to be a legitimate oath of office; b) stand down; or c) or be removed "non-violently" within three days. The FBI, rightly, regards this as a potentially seditious threat against the governors.

These two events are a wake-up call for progressives. They're telling us that it's time to openly confront the fact that conservatives have spent the past 40 years systematically delegitimizing the very idea of constitutional democracy in America. When they're in power, they mismanage it and defund it. When they're out of power, they refuse to participate in running the country at all -- indeed, they throw all their energy into thwarting the democratic process any way they can. When they need to win an election, they use violent, polarizing, eliminationist language against their opponents to motivate their base. This is sedition in slow motion, a gradual corrosive undermining of the government's authority and capacity to run the country. And it's been at the core of their politics going all the way back to Goldwater.

[...]

The old rules of liberal niceness or even the pretenses of moderate civility aren’t in effect anymore, no one is playing by them except those liberals who you will see on TV or on the radio. You can’t reason with these people. The media that pretends this is something to mildly discuss with the two conservabots from the media and guess pools and the obligatory Brookings quisling are engaged in an enablement operation for these people.

Newt Gingrich talked the other day about the 1850s. I’ll bet that not two percent of his cheering, addled fans understood the import of that and as they cheered they didn’t care. It was a declaration of intent to foment another civil war. The clear statements couched in veiled language for these crackpots who are already armed and dangerous to get ready is incitement to kill. This is very serious and we have to give up our self-deceiving reluctance to face that truth. This is sedition against democracy, it is pathological zealotry. It can’t be countered by ACLU rules, they don’t intend to be civil with the liberties they have been handed.

Those are real guns and bullets they're stockpiling, they are real explosive devices. They aren't just collectors.

One owes respect to the living. To the dead, one owes only the truth.
