Kerry Confirmed At State – Cruz Votes No Because Kerry Supported Treaties

John Kerry has been confirmed as Obama’s 2nd term Secretary of State by a Senate vote of 94 to 3, and could take up his post as early as Wednesday.

What’s an eye-opener is who voted “No”. Two of the most recalcitrant, conservative and dumb Senators – John Cornyn of Texas and Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma – and Ted Cruz of Texas, who is being hailed by many in the Republican party as their gleaming new Hispanic hope and change.

Cruz issued this statement:

“I was compelled to vote no on Senator Kerry’s nomination because of his longstanding less-than-vigorous defense of U.S. national security issues and, in particular, his long record of supporting treaties and international tribunals that have undermined U.S. sovereignty.  Now that he has been confirmed, I look forward to working with him in the years to come, hopefully, to protect our interests and preserve U.S. sovereignty.”

Obviously all but two of his most conservative colleagues disagree. He has now exposed himself as a member of the “UN One World Order” conspiracy theorist fringe of the Tea Party fringe, one who will brook no compromise with “less than vigorous” wingnuttery. That’s not the kind of hope the Republican party should be looking for.
