Pastural Love (A Springtime Sonnet)

Pastural Love (A Springtime Sonnet)
by Vegas Waterman

Shall we (you and I) away, then hie
To hillocks sweet with grass, or bowered wood
Where (softly!) Zephyrs stir in dappled, pie-
Balled ecstasy? Come, Love, please, say you would!

Thyne every Doe-eyed gaze and sway of hip
Suggest a Bond that only Lovers know;
Though ne'er such Utterance shall pass thy Lips
I can discern, ne'er less our Love will grow!

But O! My Soul, doth Human-kind deplore
Our Love (not kind to kind, thus, Bent for Hell);
Through Thunder, Lightning, Earthquake, Tempest...More!,
I'd follow, Dumb, your brassy, Bossy bell.

I'll have you yet! (The Abattoir awaits):
Two all-beef patties, Special Sauce, lettuce, cheese,
Pickles, onions on a Styrofoam plate!

I know it's very clever and wonderfully funny, but who or what is the narrator? Another bovine? A McDonald's customer?

And who is Vegas Waterman? The only specific thing about him on Google is this poem here on the Agonist.

Of course, it might be better not to get answers and just go with the mystery.

Our Love (not kind to kind, thus, Bent for Hell);

I was initially worried it was being herded towards the "love that dare not moo its name" place.

Garrison Kiellor has a "springtime sonnet" contest going on his Prairie Home Companion website. The deadline is April 11th, if you're interested.

As for Vegas Waterman, he is a very obscure writer, known to have penned just a few poems, including Jive on Java, Ragamuffin, and this one. Rumor has it that he is or may have been a reviewer of hotel lounge acts in Nevada.
.
Good times for Smiley! :-D
