Pushing For the Webb Amendment

Jim Webb has an amendment coming up to restrict how long, and often, troops can be deployed in combat. For regular troops it requires a 1/1 ratio - for every year in zone, they get a year of down time. For reserve units it will be one to three.

This amendment is important both because it should reduce wear and tear on the US military's readiness (currently so low that if there was a major crisis requiring ground troops, the US would be unable to respon adequately) and because it is a first crack into making the point that no, "just sending more men" isn't going to make a difference in Iraq.

There are a number of key Senators who need calls, names and numbers below the fold. If you're a constituent consider giving them a call this morning.
