Joe Trippi Joins the Edwards Campaign

I really thought that the 2004 presidential campaign would be the last I would be involved in. I have always wanted to make a difference, but for me I thought those days were over.

A few weeks ago, John and Elizabeth Edwards made their decision to continue, not just John Edwards' campaign for President, but their work together to make a difference for their country.

And that made me realize that I wasn't done trying to make a difference either. Not by a long shot. So today I am joining the John Edwards campaign.

Too much is at stake. The war in Iraq continues, and more of our troops will lose their lives. Working Americans are losing ground. Poverty continues in the wealthiest nation on the planet. And nearly nothing is really being done to reduce global warming.

John Edwards is leading the way and making a difference on all of these issues. He's offering big ideas backed by real plans to change our country. And so his campaign is the place where I will work to make whatever difference I can.

Lets make a difference together, for each other, and for our country. Too much is at stake to give anything less than everything we've got.

I'll be very interested to see how much of a difference this makes for the Edwards campaign. It will depend, I expect, on the Edwards. The first step is bringing him on, the second is knowing when to listen to him and when not.

In particular, while I would give great weight to Joe in almost everything, I wouldn't give him final say in traditional media campaigns.

from both sides are nothing more than BS.
Politics in the US has become BS.
The truth doesn't matter anymore.
BS matters.
He who gives the most BS, that the people believe, wins.
When will the US accept the truth as a platform to vote for?
With all the BS, never!

repressive governments mix administrative clumsiness & inefficiency with authoritarian tendencies.

And do you have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

I've always stated that the first step is re-introducing a modernized Fairness Doctrine.

Pound shut the nozzles of one-framing propaganda, on both sides. That just builds ill-informed partisans - when you get the phenomenon of news networks whose viewers are actually the worst-informed of all media consumers on the issues of the day, you're looking at a serious danger to the nation regardless of which POV it espouses. You can't stop the volcanic flow of molten BS from politicans - it's actually a job prerequisite - but what you can do is ensure that parties with a vested interest in exposing one another's BS get an equal airing.

Trippi can start by telling him to get a new hairdresser.

I was involved with the Dean campaign here in Chicago in 2003/4. The not often mentioned secret about Trippi and his "genius" is that he was the one who decided to put all of Dean's chips in Iowa and gamble on winning there. When it didn't work, they were down on resources for the rest of the campaign. You can say that Dean couldn't recover from the feeding frenzy of the scream, but at the same time, the whole Trippi 'gamble' - and its ill results - happened before the media feeding frenzy over the so called scream.

Trippi was very good at making the campaign what is was - both good and bad.
