Newsweek Supresses Their Own Poll Showing Hillary Can Win

For some reason Newsweek left the poll results below, from their own poll, out of their story on whether Clinton could become President.

Clinton 50 / McCain 43

Clinton 48 / Giuliani 47

I ain't a fan of Clinton, and I have doubts about her electibility (her negatives are very high, and that makes her very vulnerable to swift boating), but isn't it interesting that such newsworthy poll results were left out? These numbers are also interesting:

Clinton 58 / Romney 32

Obama 43 / McCain 45

Obama 44 / Giuliani 47

Obama 55 / Romney 25

I'd have bet McCain would be the next President. It's looking unlikely now, for two reasons:

1. He hasn't been able to pander enough to the far right without it starting to affect his reputation as a "straight talker". Since they seem to want public abasement before they'll get on board, they're basically shooting him down.

2. It looks like Bush is going to escalate in Iraq, which (when it fails, as one can safely assume any Bush-led initiative will) will undercut his argument that the solution was more troops.

Both of these stem from the same core problem; McCain needed to run as the anti-Bush, and the Bushites are making sure he can't. If, as seems increasingly likely, the Bushite wing of the Republicans has enough of a lock on the party to ensure that only one of their own can be nominated, then the Democrats should have a pretty good shot at winning.

Running to the right hard is trashing his brand. He thought he could pull it off, then swing back to the center in th election, but it's looking like he can't. The Bush-base demands too much.

Let self interest be unbounded on the right then the LIMIT, as purity goes to infinity, is zero party members.

Of course, is for a relative unknown (e.g. some Southern Governor) to get the nomination--he can sew up the Bushites when nobody's paying attention to him then do the classic move to the centre later.

Of course, the hardcore righties will probably be telling themselves that it's OK to "skip" '08 and let the Democrats take the blame for what will be a major disaster in Iraq. Assuming, of course, that Bush can push out the reckoning that long which seems increasingly unlikely.

and now he has no credibility to the moderates or independents. The right never liked him so, he dug is own.
Same with Hillary who had to pretend to be a republican and then boxed herself in.
Now she is pandering so obviously it's embarassing.
She also looks like she's playing catch up with the re=release of her book. She's trying to do an Obama but, it's so obvious it won't work. this is like the old washed up star trying for a comeback. Tries too hard to be like the new star instead of herself and ends up in worse shape.
Who ever is advising her I hope they keep it up and then Hillary will be out of the race early. Anything to keep her from getting the nomination.
