The Cost of Political Cowardice

When Senate Democrats couldn't even be bothered to filibuter Alito, this is what they sold you down the river to:

Gov. Kathleen Blanco said Thursday that she'll sign a near-total ban on abortion - without exceptions for rape or incest victims - that is nearing final legislative passage...

...It only would allow abortion in cases where the woman's life is in danger or when childbirth would permanently harm her health.

The bill could only go into effect if the U.S. Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision is overturned.

"I anticipate signing that bill. It's got a safety measure for extreme situations for the life of the mother and some other health issues," Blanco said in an interview with The Associated Press.

She said she believed an exception for rape and incest victims to get an abortion, a proposal rejected by both the House and Senate, would have "been reasonable," but she said she wouldn't reject the bill for that reason.

"The Legislature has spoken," Blanco said....

...The bill is similar to a South Dakota law passed earlier this year that is expected to land before the Supreme Court. A majority of the Supreme Court's nine justices have voted to uphold Roe v. Wade in the past.

Hope Senators are looking forward all the incest victims and rape victims being forced to bear their father's or rapist's kids. Because these bills are passing because Right-To-Lifers are betting that Alito and Roberts will let them pass review.

Political cowardice is paid for by ordinary people. In this case the women who die on the end of coathangers or back street abortions will pay, as will those girls who were raped by thier fathers, brothers and cousins who don't want to bear a child forced on them.

And in the nation's VA hospitals you can witness the thousands of other victims of prior Democratic cowardice - men and women who will have to learn to live without limbs, or in wheelchairs, or with horrible nightmares.

Another price for political cowardice.

How these Senators can get up in the morning and face mirrors is beyond me. They say vampires can't see themselves in mirrors, because in the end they could not be vampires if they had to face themselves.

Most politicians, who drain the blood of their victims by choice not because of a curse, have no trouble facing themselves knowing what they have done, and what misery, pain and horror they have caused.

I've heard, from time to time, celebrities, friends, pundits and other vocal types say they would leave the United States if Dreaded Sociopolitical Scenario A, B, or C actually came to pass. Very few actually followed through, even after their stated nightmare came true.

I've always regarded moving to another country as borderline absurdity, always believing that no matter how bad things got in America, there was always a way to fix it and that leaving was simply unthinkable.

Now I've begun to wonder. Overturning Roe vs. Wade just might be the tipping point.

...It's a corruption problem, using religion as camouflage. Any intrepid reporter who digs deep enough into the background of this story will find, guaranteed, that public money is being given to the religious groups who are behind this effort to ban abortions.

How do I know? Oh, I've been to the fair; I've seen the carnies. They're all pretty much the same, as are the rubes. Same as it ever was, said David Byrne...

Furthermore, Blanco is getting promises of political loyalty in return for the money. Betcha-betcha.

It's a form of bribery, and oh yeah, it's a crime. Get to it, intrepid reporters!

When it comes to women it's just that a good game.

There is a very primitive mindset, even within the richest and supposedly most advanced nation on the planet, that believes that women have one and only one specific purpose and desire. That is to birth babies and become mothers. No other options are supposed to be more important to all women than that.

It's still not very widely accepted that women are more than uteruses and eggs and not waiting breathlessly to have children. LOL! Actually it's still not very widely accepted that women have sex with men here. Although I'm not sure who or what so many think men are having sex with.

There isn't a country on this planet that this war is not being fought. No matter where any woman goes it's a fight to retain our decision making power and right to define our own lives as senient human beings. Whether this war is fought in the United States or anywhere else, it's still the same damn thing.
