Let It Die

Several provisions of The Patriot Act are scheduled to expire on January 1. This piece is a fairly comprehensive story on the three-way battle among the House, the Senate and the Oval Office on who wants to retain what. Several good links included.

To win we need only get congress to do what it does best: nothing. We should beating the drums on this now, although it certainly sets up the democrats for the next blame game when any sort of half-cocked right wing nutjob pulls a terrorist act again (liburals made us less safe! They did this by inaction.)

But the alternative is an almost assured future confrontation with a police state in the USA if they retain these powers. There is no way the govt won't misuse this in the worst possible ways.

this is a red herring when you consider how far above and beyond our government has gone and continues to go in spying on the American public.

New and more data collection centers are being built as we speak, with greater and more intrusive capabilities in mind.

I did inhale.

and pushing for the death of any part of the PA and fighting for what's left of the Bill of Rights may be pissing against the tide, but...
