Denninger calls for boycott

Here.

Have you had it with the scams, frauds, "mark to myth" and lies?

Tired of this sort of garbage - being punished for being responsible?

You may believe that your exemplary behavior shields you from unexpected credit card fees. Sadly, that is no longer the case.

You can stop it.

Yes, you.

All 330,000,000 of you.

Here's how.

Go withdraw all your money and business from the following institutions:

Bank of America
Wells Fargo/Wachovia
Citibank
JP Morgan/Chase

Those four.

Place your business with a local community bank or credit union in their place, and tell the above four institutions to "piss off."

I've resisted doing this, but the idea that banks are now going to try to penalize those who do not carry balances or pay late fees is the last straw.

This is a call for a boycott.

I quit doing business with those guys a long time ago. Read the rest at the link

...Most large banks need to die. I moved to a credit union 10 years ago and haven't looked back since. Don't boycott, kill the bastards. Changing ones life style to never need a bank again is the only answer. It fixes a lot of other things as well. ;D

It's time for me to man up, too, and close my Chase accounts. Thanks for the nudge, Don.

free Amtrak miles with my purchases. Can you suggest another way of getting those same free Amtrak miles? Thank you.

Have savings rates of less than 1%. Ing Direct has around 1.6%. I'm keeping my local credit union for direct deposit and checking. But the bulk of my money is not with them.

...after the switch from WaMu to Chase, I don't need much convincin'

You can call me irresponsible, but I never had these problems with WaMu. Chase manipulates charges to screw you - for example they'll rush to pop you $35 for a $2 coffee overdraft hours - precious hours - before your direct deposit comes in. Somehow WaMu managed not to screw me like that.

I've opened an ING direct Electric Orange checking account. You have to make a few sacrifices (one big one: no actual paper checks), but they are not out to rape and pillage the way Chase does. You get better interest than Chase's savings accounts - plus a pittance of 7% APR if you overdraft.

to the credit unions too. My old one got bought by a bigger one and in the ensuing computer chaos decided that i had taken out a loan in 1899 that i never bothered to pay back. No one seems terribly concerned that such a loan would be physically impossible nor able to answer why it took them 110 years to figure out that i wasn't paying.

But in general, i agree. I do keep a CC with zero balance for emergencies, etc. but otherwise have my money in a community bank with a good track record of fiscally conservative behavior.

We moved into a nicer house two months ago (not a foreclosure sale). Our loan has been purchased by Wells Fargo. I know banks don't make most of their money by servicing loans, but I don't suppose I can move the loan from Wells Fargo to my regular bank, Huntington. Amirite?

P.S. I haven't seen Huntington in the news, so I assume they're not leeching.

P.S.S. I may send Wells Fargo a nastygram anyway. My opening line will be, do you have my mortgage note?

I learned this week that 'Unbank' depends upon Wells Fargo for its line of credit.

These banks set up lines of credit for collapsible entities that sold thru all the mortgages -- leaving creditors holding the bag and a mess of bad mortgages. Unbank isn't going anywhere though, it still has a lot of people to suck dry around here.

But when they're the only one left with any money...

Reminds me a joke a friend once told me. He raised turkeys for Plantation Farms. Plantation enticed growers to invest in bigger, more modern houses and gave them contracts for a number of years--guaranteeing they'd have birds to raise to cover the investment into the houses.

Cargill bought Plantation's operation and then cancelled the grower contracts. All of them in this area.

So my friend was left with houses he couldn't use and a loan at the bank with no way to make the notes.

He decided to boycott Cargill products. He could't buy any feed for his cows because Cargill sells feeds grain to all the brands available in the state.

He couldn't bale his hay because Cargill owns the company that makes the wire.

Then he found out that Cargill also made parts on his tractor and his pickup truck.

So he decided to go to the house and get drunk. He picked up a bottle of beer...

Made by Cargill.

I did inhale.
