For Ryan Bingham, the Musical Rawness is Real

HOUSTON -- THERE are nights when Ryan Bingham sounds just like what he is, and there's no shame in that.

He sounds like a kid. Twenty-six years old, on paper, but a kid, really, who can write a pretty song about truck stops and pawnshops but was still carrying around a chord book not all that long ago. A musician so raw that some prospective band members have thrown up their hands and bailed on him because his songs, all mismatched chords and misplaced bridges, don't make sense to people who know what they're doing.

Then there are nights like this.

This is a great rough and tumble feel good story

Ryan's voice reminds me of Leonard Cohen. Although their lyrics and backgrounds are vastly different they both have a rough edge to their voice. It's raw and untamed, unpolished and untrained. I like it. I might get his album even if it's just to help him on his way to success.

Bush should go to jail

The "DNI," honestly these acronyms get out of hand, is absolutely correct. Some of us, I number myself among them, say that Bush ought to be in jail. Presuming he's innocent until proven guilty of course, but I, like others think that spying, lying, kidnapping, and torturing are all violations of U.S. and international law and would provide enough probable cause to arrest his sorry ass and get an indictment.
