NEWS TOO GOOD TO KEEP TO SELFhttp://crooksandliars.com/node/24929 A political scientist named Mark Haas has just published a book titled George W. Bush, War Criminal? The Bush Administration's Liability for 269 War Crimes: Based on information supplied in autobiographical and press sources, the book matches events in Afghanistan, Guantánamo, Iraq , and various secret places of detention with provisions in the Geneva Conventions and other international agreements on war crimes. His compilation is the first to cite a comprehensive list of specific war crimes in four categories-illegality of the decision to go to war, misconduct during war, mistreatment of prisoners of war, and misgovernment in the American occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq. bernadene December 31, 2008 - 12:55pm

This is the best i can do to protestthe fifth anniversary of one of the greatest atrocities executed by any Western democratic government...certainly Nazi Germany was worse by numbers and some other measures, but is that the standard we are now using? we aren't as bad as that? God help us all. From the re-elect Dennis Kucinich committee: "After five years of war, send a powerful message Five years ago this Wednesday, March 19, 2003, Republican President George Bush launched his illegal, immoral and deceitful war against Iraq. Two weeks ago, 10,000 Republicans in Ohio's 10th Congressional District launched a different kind of strike - changing their party affiliation to vote in a Democratic primary election fueled by an unscrupulous "Dump Dennis" campaign targeting the strongest, most vocal, and most consistent critic of George Bush's policies, foreign and domestic: U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich. bernadene March 17, 2008 - 5:37pm

This is outrageousand every American can do something about it. Please watch this video and send it on. I am a single mother, a nurse. Not rolling in dough, but I have maxed out to send Dennis Kucinich a $100.00 a month on my debit card because it is the right thing to do. maybe one day it won't be necessary. but not now. not yet. thanks to all who are working so hard here at the Agonist to tell the truth and save our democracy. bernadene March 10, 2008 - 6:26pm

Resistence is VitalMORE IMPORTANT INFORMATION YOU WON'T HEAR ABOUT ANYWHERE IN THE CRAVEN MAINSTRAM MEDIA May 10, 2007 Today I attended a victory/Peace Rally at UC Fullerton in California. It was to initially be a protest rally. The US Army was busing in 2,000 kids from low income neighborhoods to speak with recruiters on campus. The uproar caused by the Campus Peace Movement and area activists forced the Army to cancel it's recruiting day turning the day into a victory dance. As I figure it 2,000 kids will live to see one more day. It was a beautiful sunny So Cal day. About 100 peace folks were in attendance and 10 Pro-war kids were on the side lines. bernadene May 11, 2007 - 9:56am

Cheney IMPEACHMENT Initiative, Our Next MoveDear friends and activists, Are we serious about impeaching Cheney, or like what? You bet we are! No action page we have ever done has drawn as much immediate and passionate response (34,000 votes already) as the National Cheney Impeachment Poll, a strong indicator that the public will is out there if only we mobilize it. And you are receiving this update alert because you have already submitted your vote in this round. But many of you are asking yourselves, "what ELSE they can I do to help in this initiative?" In this message we will propose TWO incredibly powerful things, which if enough of us do them, impeachment will quickly become reality. bernadene May 10, 2007 - 9:28am

Riverbend and her family are leaving Baghdad - finally[...]I remember Baghdad before the war- one could live anywhere. We didn't know what our neighbors were- we didn't care. No one asked about religion or sect. No one bothered with what was considered a trivial topic: are you Sunni or Shia? You only asked something like that if you were uncouth and backward. Our lives revolve around it now. Our existence depends on hiding it or highlighting it- depending on the group of masked men who stop you or raid your home in the middle of the night. On a personal note, we've finally decided to leave. I guess I've known we would be leaving for a while now. We discussed it as a family dozens of times. At first, someone would suggest it tentatively because, it was just a preposterous idea- leaving ones home and extended family- leaving ones country- and to what? To where? bernadene May 6, 2007 - 10:23pm

More IMPEACHMENT NEWS - do your democratic dutyApril 28's I-M-P-E-A-C-H day was a huge success! We all had a great time. We got lots of press coverage. And we put impeachment squarely on the table in Congress. Your efforts helped persuade Rep. Lacy Clay (D-MO) and Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) to sign onto Rep. Dennis Kucinich's H.Res. 333 to impeach Vice President Cheney, which he introduced on April 24th. Schakowsky is a member of the House leadership and a close associate of Speaker Nancy Pelosi. In addition, your efforts persuaded Rep. John Murtha (D-PA), a key House Democratic leader, to raise the possibility of impeaching Bush on Sunday's Face the Nation and on NPR's All Things Considered, where he said impeachment is "on the table." bernadene May 4, 2007 - 9:23am

Impeachment IS on the table- do your duty citizens!!!It's just that the craven MSM are ignoring it. To wit: "Good morning, fellow citizens. Vice president Richard B. Cheney is known to have committed high crimes against the Constitution of the United States, including fabricating a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction and ties with Al Qaeda to justify an illegal war of aggression against Iraq. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to rally everyone else you can to vote in the National Cheney Impeachment Poll, which already has over 27,000 submissions, to overcome the media naysayers and make impeachment proceedings a reality. bernadene May 3, 2007 - 9:59am

Wolf, 24, of San Francisco, spent longer in prison than any other reporter in U.S. history in a civil contempt of court case. He was released from a federal prison in Dublin this afternoon after reaching an agreement with prosecutors on a federal grand jury’s bid for his testimony and a videotape of a violent demonstration in San Francisco in 2005. bernadene April 4, 2007 - 12:53pm

ONLINE Presidential Nominating process Unity08Become a founding deligate What We Believe Unity08 believes that neither of today’s major parties reflects the aspirations, fears or will of the majority of Americans. Both have polarized and alienated the people. Both are unduly influenced by single-issue groups. Both are excessively dominated by money. For most of the 20th Century, the contest for the U.S. presidency was waged over those “in the middle.” Recent Presidential elections, however, have not been focused on the middle but on the turnout of each party’s special interest groups — with each party’s “base” representing barely ten percent of the American people. bernadene March 30, 2007 - 7:30am

Another Casualty: Coverage of the Iraq WarIraq is the most dangerous place in the world for journalists. Along with names and dates, the Brussels Tribunal has listed the circumstances under which Iraqi media personnel have been killed since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003. This extremely credible report cites 195 as dead. If non-Iraqi media representatives are included, the figure goes beyond 200. Both figures are well in excess of the media fatalities suffered in Vietnam or during World War II. bernadene March 26, 2007 - 1:47pm

Now is the Moment to Take to the StreetsMarch on Washington, January 27... a note from Deb Kory If you're anything like me, you've attended anti-war demonstrations over the last five years with an increasing sense of futility. The initial shock and horror of going to war with Iraq electrified the nation and it seemed, for a short while, that a whole new social movement would arise to meet the dangers of the reckless policies of the Bush Administration. Having grown up in the shadow of the Sixties generation, I was instilled with the idea that the revolution had long since died and was eager to join the anti-war movement and transcend my lonely little existence for the sake of world peace. bernadene January 24, 2007 - 4:58pm
Iran Gets Army Gear in Pentagon SaleOh Irony of Ironies! In one case, federal investigators said, the contraband made it to Iran, a country President Bush branded part of an "axis of evil." In that instance, a Pakistani arms broker convicted of exporting U.S. missile parts to Iran resumed business after his release from prison. He purchased Chinook helicopter engine parts for Iran from a U.S. company that had bought them in a Pentagon surplus sale. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, speaking on condition of anonymity, say those parts made it to Iran. bernadene January 16, 2007 - 10:11pm
Is it high treason or just a simple case of dereliction of duty?January 11, 2007 -- All the available information indicates that at least one of these crimes was committed and the finger points squarely at the Bush administration. The tape was billed as the smoking gun that proves Bin Laden’s guilt and in order to remove all suspicion of fowl play; the Pentagon released the tape in its entirety. If Bin Laden, through his own words, implicated himself in the planning of the 9/11 operations that took 3,000 innocent lives, the rest of the tape, which is a Bin Laden family home video of a downed Special Forces helicopter, implicates the Bush administration in a premeditated act that resulted in the loss of thousands of innocent lives in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other corners of the world. bernadene January 15, 2007 - 11:25am
