Dark Money as "Public Welfare?" By matttbastard, on August 19th, 2012 ProPublica’s Kim Barker gets some well-deserved airtime re: her groundbreaking investigation of how non-profs are actually outspending Super PACs on (purportedly non-)partisan advertising in the 2012 campaign cycle. Props to Bob Schieffer & CBS News for actually taking a (brief) step back from the horserace gaggle to highlight a far more substantive and consequential issue.

Why do we allow this shit to go on? How do we know the China or North Korea aren’t financing these 501(c)(4) organizations? The genie is really out of the bottle when it comes to campaign finance, after Citizens United. We are so screwed…..
