Cowboys

Betty Gillis took pictures while cowboys gathered and worked the cattle on our “Nelson place”, bordering the San Marcos River near Gonzales.

Then she went and fucked things up by posting a few head shots of some old snaggle-toothed fart that dragged along for the ride.

Great looking Boarder Collies. The cowboys not so.

She competes regularly in sheep dog trials.

The cowboys are the real deal, a salty lot. While rough as hell, they are quite noble. Reminds me of knights of old or somesuch. I cuss profusely (blame it on prison); most of them don’t. They’re polite and courteous to women, they don’t tolerate theft or thieves. Not particularly fond of jobs that involve tools bearing handles, they work long hard hours in the roughest and most dangerous of conditions if a cow and or a horse is involved.

I admire and respect these men.

    I did inhale.

All too few real cowboys around these days.
A good reminder that dogs, chickens, wildlife, flowers and people are as much a part of the life as cows and horses.

Also makes my butt hurt at the memory of spending 8 hours/day in the saddle when I was too young to know better.
At least all I had to do was drive them, not seriously ‘work’ them.

Give my regards to all hands and my sympathy to Leah. :-D

It is worth remembering that the Founding Fathers were all traitors.

Thanks for putting them up. Now we need some shots of that landscape you write about.

now…, how about a post to go with it? We got plenty of politics here…, but I am missing the day to day working life reality that is going on in the real world.
