Facemasks won’t be enough if it’s Sarin.
It’s hard to say, but the videos don’t suggest Sarin symptoms. The breathing problems suggest crowd control gases.
Also, if it’s Sarin, the responders aren’t protected anywhere near enough. If it’s Sarin, they’ll develop symptoms too.
Interesting that this happened in Homs. That’s supposedly where one of their primary production and storage sites is. One of the thorniest analytical issues we’re dealing with – quite apart from whether it really happened – is whether it was a deliberate regime release or a false flag by rebel forces. They’re not stupid and they have – if they were to manage to get their hands on materiel – the capability.
