Downloaded the .ISO of the 32-bit version yesterday (A site noted on C-Net managed to get the .ISOs before Microsoft's site went down from the sheer volume of access requests).

Looks like Microsoft's site is up now...

First Impressions:
It was easy to install, even in my environment (Parallels Desktop for Mac virtual session). The installer started *much* faster than Vista, and installed much faster than Vista. The Install doesn't appear to set up Network connectivity (at least mine didn't)...so be prepared to go into Control Panel->Network and Sharing Center to configure your connection.

Playing with the OS:
The learning curve from XP isn't as bad as I feared it might be...and for Vista users, it's similar enough you should be able to jump in immediately. Bootup is lightning-quick, compared to Vista (hell, it starts faster than my XP session, even). Response is quick and clean, and the graphics aren't cryptic, even for this routine Mac user. One feature I liked as soon as I saw it: The 'Computer' selection in Windows Explorer provides an instant graphical report on disk freespace...very nice.

Still digging through IE 8 and Windows Media...I don't use them much, so the interface needs a little getting used-to. IE's rendering, though, struck me--it was rendering almost as fast as it received data...faster than the Firefox engine I'm using to create this post. I suspect there will be a small scramble in the Open Source arena to tighten up code and improve response, so as to remain competitive. Users are not a patient lot, and we don't like the wait for screens, if the connection is fast. CAVEAT--make certain you download and install the patch for WMP, so that it doesn't destroy your MP3's when you play them (KB961367)

That's what I have at the moment.... Looks like it could be the best Windows so far. Have fun, play safe, and *always back up!!*

It boggles the mind.

Whatever you might think of the man's politics, he can definitely command a large audience on occasion, and is quite the orator.

For all the talk from conservatives that we're in 1968 again, I can't help but see this and think maybe we're in 1963 again---Very Kennedy-esque.
