Awaiting Discharge - Receiving Gifts?????

Question:
Couple of questions in this post. First off, I filed back in August and had my 341 in September. Everything went well, and I am just waiting on the discharge papers. I called the bankruptcy court automated phone line, and the message for my case just says "awaiting closing." Will it continue to say that until my case is discharged or will it say that until the 180 days after discharge are complete? The 180 days brings up another question. Do trustees actually check to see if you have received any gifts, monetary awards, won the lottery, etc. during the 6 months after you receive your discharge. I am sure that they do, but I can't imagine them doing it in all cases. I would really only see them doing it if they had been tipped off to it. A relative of mine sent me a check for $2000 last week to "help me out." Before I did anything with it, I called my attorney and he said to give it back, that the trustee could take things like that for the next 180 days. If I cash it, or just receive cash, how would the trustee ever know if I just put the cash in my house safe? What my attorney told me also made me wonder about a savings account over the next 6 months. Since my 341 meeting, I am now in a living arrangement where I will have over $1200 extra a month. I didn't lie on my original filing about my expenses, they were true at the time and I only had about $50 left over. With this turn of events, what is the best thing to do with that extra money? Put the cash in the house safe and then on the 181st day put it all in the bank? Not literally, but you get the point. Thanks for any responses.

Answer:
What is this 6 month period after discharge? I was never informed of this. I do remember the trustee asking about receiving any money in the next six months at the 341 meeting. So is this 6 month period from the meeting or the discharge? Any info is helpful.
