Question, To Anyone Else Who Cares To Answer...
Hey all, My wife and I finally have been trying to gett our credit reports in order and I am floored by how many errors are on our reports. and how many errors are still on. is there anyone that can recommend the best way to fix these errors legally other than going through the creditors and reporting agencies, they just don't care. I'm talking about attorneys is there any lawyer that you can recommend ? I don't think I need a bankruptcy attorney, but maybe perhaps a consumer attorney? I live in western PA, any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much to this board for its excellent help.
Answer:
Speaking with a consumer protection attorney would be a good way to deal with this. Avoid the "We'll Clean Your Credit!!!" folks like the plague. In my experience (I am not a lawyer, I'm a layman who has gone through BK7 and has had some success repairing my credit myself), the most direct way to correct errors on one's credit report is to dispute ONLY the legitimate errors, and provide photocopied documentation -- your discharge and your Schedule F (unsecured creditor matrix), and anything else that supports the disputes you assert -- and submit them to the Credit Reporting Agencies. Usually, post-bankruptcy, the incorrectly reported entries are creditors who SHOULD be reporting as included in bankruptcy. In my case, I also had a prior installment (auto) loan that was incorrectly reporting as included in bankruptcy when it was actually reaffirmed through the bankruptcy and paid as agreed. You do NOT need to use a "credit repair agency" -- this is something you can do yourself for the cost of a copy of each CRA's report and a weekend's worth of effort.
