When And What Can I Expect At The 341 Meeting?

Question:
My attorney filed my chapter 7 today. I live in Kansas. When can I expect the 341 meeting, and what questions can I expect? My attorney did advise me that most of the questions will be the "boiler" type questions. Will they be allowed to ask harassing questions? How long does a chapter 7 take to discharge?

Answer:
Typically, a Chapter 7 no asset Meeting of Creditors takes 3-5 minutes. No harassing questions are asked. No creditors appear. The standard questions asked here in Maryland and DC are: 1. Identify yourself and show photo ID and proof of your SSN 2. Did you sign the Petition and Schedules? 3. Did you list all your assets? 4. Did you list all your debts? 5. Have you owned any real property during the past 5 years? 6. Have you owned or operated a business during the past 5 years? 7. Are there any additions or corrections you want to make to your schedules? I also asked about a creditor asking harassing questions at the 341 mtg -- see the thread entitled "What happens at the creditors' meeting?"
