Judgement

Question:
I live in florida my question is how long it takes a creditor who file a law suit to get a judgement.thanks

Answer:
Anywhere from a few weeks (in the case of a confessed judgment) to several years, depending on the details of the case, which court it is filed in, etc. Once you are sued, you will normally (at least in smaller cases) get a trial date. Depends on where the suit is filed and the status of the civil court dockets in that venue. First a creditor files a suit against you and moves for summary judgment on their claim. You are then sent notice via certified mail of the suit and given a chance to file an answer. Then a hearing on that motion is held and, if you do not answer, the motion is granted and the creditor can then pursue the remedies sought in the motion (e.g., garnishment, lien, repossession, etc.). I would say it could take two to three months after the initial suit is filed, but, again, that all depends on the court's schedule.
