Home Owners Ins And Taxes?
Hopefully a couple of quick questions? 1. Should I pay the propority taxes prior to filing for BK? 2. Should I continue to pay home owner insurance? Thanks in advance,
In my case (since I am giving up the house) I did not pay property tax since the tax attaches to the home and not to me as a person. As for home owner insurance, I continued to pay it so I could protect my stuff inside the home in the event of disaster. Hope this helps. On April 3rd our BK was filed we are keeping our home. Our lawyer told us not to pay the property taxes, after our discharge we will have to pay it. BK just gives us more time to pay it. We are keeping current on our homeowners insurance. Oliver have you spoken to a BK lawyer yet? Most lawyers offer first consultation for free, you can find out what you need to know and what you will need to do before you sign anything. Good luck
