Wondering Where Is The Best Place To Stay For Its Beauty?

Q: I am going to visit Lake District in the UK for the first time - I am wondering where is the best place to stay for its beauty? Is Lake Windermere too "touristy"? I'm trying to stay in a place where it is good for its value and yet with fantastic scenery!

A: -Glenridding at the foot of Kirkstone Pass at the southern end of Ullswater is ine of my favourite spots. http://www.bbc.co.uk/cumbria/webcams/glenridding.shtml -this must depend on how you intend to travel a) to get there b) when you are there Somewhere like Coniston would be better if you're using a car but if travelling by train/bus forget it. -We enjoyed our stay at The Grange in Keswick in May 2003.. http://www.grangekeswick.com/ We took some side trips to Windermere and other spots. -Although Ambleside may get busy, it is a very convenient location and very nice - lots of restaurants and shops and if needed, great access to local bus transportation
